Ghost Recon Online Now In Open Beta

Ghost Recon Online has been in closed beta since back in March, but now Ubisoft has opened the doors to all with the launch of the Ghost Recon Online public beta.

Lest you confuse the game with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Ghost Recon Online is a standalone free-to-play third-person shooter set in the Ghost Recon universe, specifically the future. It was originally going to be the only form of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to be released on PC, but Ubisoft later had a change of heart.

Initially, only three classes, four maps, and two game modes are available in the Ghost Recon Online open beta, but you can expect that more content will be added in after the game’s official launch, if not sooner.

Ghost Recon Online‘s three classes include Assault, Recon, and Specialist. Each of the three have unique devices and team bonuses. For example, the Recon class is able to cloak and use a UAV-type device called the “Oracle.” In addition to that, Recon can also detect nearby enemies that are sprinting as well as gunshots fired by enemy players.

Similar to Future Soldier, Ghost Recon Online also features a weapon customization system that allows you to trick out your weapon of choice with scopes, sights, barrels, stocks, and so on.

If all of that sounds interesting to you, you can head over to the Ghost Recon Online website to start downloading the game. You’ll need a Uplay account to play, so be sure to create one if you haven’t already.
