Ann Romney: No More Tax Returns

Ann Romney, wife of Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney, told NBC in an interview that her husband is not going to release any more tax returns before the elections.  The public will just have to suffice with what they have released so far.

Ann Romney told Natalie Morales in an interview that will be airing on Thursday,

“We have been very transparent to what’s legally required of us. There’s going to be no more tax releases given.”

Her response is very reminiscent of the Clintonian “I did not have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky”.  It is answers that say to the American people that they have upheld the letter of the law but not the spirit that gets everyone so angry.

Romney has come under fire from Democrats and Republicans for only releasing one full year of tax returns so far (and it is widely agreed he did not release all the information in them) and a promise to release his full 2011 taxes when they are finished.
Romney has said that he has no intention of releasing more.

Last week, without offering evidence of its truth, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said on the Senate Floor that he heard from a Bain Capital investor that Romney didn’t pay any money in taxes for more than 10 years.  Romney has said this isn’t true.

Ann Romney said that releasing more tax returns would just give the Obama campaign more ammunition to go after her husband with.  It is precisely these type of comments that are giving the Democrats the ability to question what could be in them that he would rather continue to focus on the issue instead of releasing them.  Ann Romney says that the Romney’s have nothing to hide.

Ann Romney later in the interview says she beleives that only her husband can save the country from difficult economic times, saying:

“We have a reason why we’re running and it’s because I believe in my heart that Mitt is going to save America, that economically we are in such difficult times and that he is the person that’s going to pull us through this.”
