Energy Startup To Build Biggest Offshore Wind Farms In Texas

Houston, TX (AHN) – A new energy company will build the largest offshore wind farms in the U.S. to power schools, prisons, cities and data centers in Texas, according to the Texas General Land Office (TGLO).
Houston-based Baryonyx Corp. will build wind farms on 19,000 acres of leased offshore lands in Mustang Island near Corpus Christi and off South Padre Island. A third wind farm on 8,000 acres of land will be built in Dallam County.
Each turbines in the wind farms will generate 5 megawatts of electricity to produce up to 750 megawatts. The power will be delivered to the TGLO, which will sell it to schools, prisons and cities. Baryonyx will provide power for 30 years that will earn Texas at least $338 million in educational funds.
Aside from the wind farms, Baryonyx will build mission-critical Tier 4 data centers.
Construction of the wind farms is set to start in 2012 or 2013.
