McKayla Maroney Is Not Impressed On ‘Letterman’ Show [Video]

McKayla Maroney and the rest of the Fab Five showed up on the Late Show with David Letterman, and Maroney, now famous for the “McKayla Maroney is Not Impressed” meme inspired by her scowl on the podium at the Olympics, gave Letterman a chance to see her scowl in action.

E! Online reports that Letterman gave Maroney the chance to explain her supposed scowl at taking silver in the vault finals, speculating that the cameras simply caught her in a contemplative moment. Maroney responded:

“It is pretty funny. After I did it, the girls kept pointing it out, ‘You’re doing that face again.’”

Aly Raisman, who took gold in the floor exercise finals, added, “Every time she does it, we’re like, ‘There it is!’ We’ve all been working on it.” Letterman then encouraged the whole team to show off their best McKayla isn’t impressed impressions, causing them to giggle.

The Bleacher Report’s Gabe Zaldivar writes about Maroney’s meme that:

“Memes lose their pizazz once the subject gets in on the joke. When that happens, the punchline loses a little punch. Once Maroney became the least bit impressed, we all lost the greatest meme from the Olympics. The curtain has been pulled back to reveal a genuinely enthusiastic young athlete. While that’s not as funny, it’s certainly more enjoyable.”

So, with the revelation that the meme is loved by all of the Fab Five, including McKayla Maroney, who owned the hilarious moment that could have easily been a sensitive topic to her, we could see fewer and fewer “McKayla is not impressed” themed pictures until all of the hype dies out.
