Neo Geo Returns For 20th Anniversary With $200 Console

In the 1990s, you couldn’t get any cooler than the Neo Geo. Twenty years later, the only time you hear about is when someone is reminiscing about their childhood.

Well, the Neo Geo is back. SNK Playmore is re-introducing the system for its 20th anniversary. According to PC World, The Neo Geo X Gold is a handheld device that comes pre-installed with games like League Bowling, Samurai Showdown II, and Fatal Fury. If you buy the new $200 Ne Geo, you’ll also get a replica Nat Geo Console and joystick.

Geek.com reports that the new system is similar to an iPhone but with specific gaming controls embedded at the side. It will have a 4.3 inch screen and 2 GB of storage and will come pre-installed with 20 games. Still, $200 may be a bit steep for a sub-par (by today’s standards) gaming system.

Do you think anyone will pay $200 for the new Nat Geo?

We’ll find out on December 6 when the new console is officially released. The Neo Geo X Gold will be distributed by Tommo Inc., but it’s unclear what retail stores will be stocking the new system.

Here are the games that will come pre-installed on the new system according to Joystiq:

  • 3 COUNT BOUT
  • LEAGUE BOWLING
  • ART OF FIGHTING II
  • MAGICIAN LORD
  • ALPHA MISSION II
  • METAL SLUG
  • BASEBALL STARS II
  • MUTATION NATION
  • CYBER LIP
  • NAM 1975
  • FATAL FURY
  • PUZZLED
  • FATAL FURY SPECIAL
  • REAL BOUT – FATAL FURY SPECIAL
  • THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’95
  • SAMURAI SHODOWN II
  • KING OF THE MONSTERS
  • SUPER SIDEKICKS
  • LAST RESORT
  • WORLD HEROES PERFECT
