Tyler McCurry Killed 5-Month-Old Baby

North Carolina man Tyler McCurry has been sentenced to at least 23 years of imprisonment after being convicted in the violent death of five-month-old Lebron Jayden Reynolds. The Greensboro News and Record stated that the Rutherford County man was convicted of second-degree murder, and it only took about an hour for a jury to deliberate his fate.

This heartbreaking case began in 2015, when five-month-old Lebron Jayden Reynolds passed away. It was determined that the infant had suffered blunt force injuries associated with a violent event. In particular, medical examiners found that the infant had suffered a blow to his head, which ultimately caused his death.

Back when little Lebron died, both Tyler McCurry and his girlfriend Jennie Reynolds were arrested. McCurry, who is not the child’s biological father, was immediately charged with murder in the death of the boy. Jennie Reynolds, the infant’s biological mother, was charged with being an accessory after the fact in the child’s death. At the time of their arrests, they were also given a variety of charges associated with drug possession — methamphetamine.

This week a judge handed down a sentence of approximately 29 years of imprisonment to the North Carolina man, who will be required to serve at least 23 of those 29 years. Meanwhile, no reports have indicated whether or not Lebron’s mother has had her day in court. She did make an initial appearance in court nearly a year ago when this all took place, but there have been no updates regarding whether or not she has been convicted yet in association with her son’s death.

Unfortunately, it’s not at all uncommon for children to be abused — and killed — by their stepfathers or their mothers’ boyfriends. In fact, it’s a type of crime that makes headlines all too often.

Earlier this year a Tulsa man was arrested and charged with both child abuse and child neglect after a two-year-old boy in his care died. Two-year-old Michael Rigney was found dead with injuries to his body. Sadly, DHS had been called to the home numerous times before— at least seven times. They were never able to remove the children from the home, until the two-year-old died under allegedly violent circumstances. Authorities in Tulsa believe the tot was beaten to death by his stepfather.

In 2014, it was revealed that a Brooklyn father had not only killed his two-year-old daughter, but that he had done so in a very violent manner. The detail in this shocking case that got media attention wasn’t simply the death of the tot, but the fact that she was allegedly “sliced up” and fed to her father’s pet pit bull.

As for this latest case of child abuse and murder, social media is reacting with outrage that a five-month-old child was killed, especially by the boyfriend of the child’s mother. People on Facebook and Twitter are expressing various sentiments about the prison sentence McCurry was given.

No reports have shared whether or not Tyler McCurry gave any testimony during his trial. So the details surrounding the death of his girlfriend’s son are not publicly known at this time. One thing is certain, however, and that’s that a five-month-old child was never given a fighting chance to survive in this world. Do you think the sentence of 23 to 29 years of imprisonment was enough for the North Carolina man? What about the slain infant’s mother?
