‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’ Coming To An IMAX Screen Near You

For a lot of movie geeks, director Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the greatest cinematic experiences of all time. However, a large portion of the film’s fanbase has never seen the flick on the big screen. Thankfully, that problem is about to addressed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first installment of the Indiana Jones franchise is coming to IMAX screens this September in order to help promote the film’s Blu-ray release.

Although sources have confirmed with Screen Crush that the event is going down, Paramount has yet to say anything official on the matter. However, if reports are to be believed, fans of the series will be able to see their hero on the enormous screen beginning September 7.

The Blu-ray release, which will include all four entries in the franchise, is scheduled to hit retail shelves on September 18. Spielberg himself was heavily involved in the restoration process, so expect the adventures of the famed archeologist to look better than ever in high definition.

Unfamiliar with Dr. Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark? Here’s the official synopsis straight from IMDb:

“The year is 1936. A professor who studies archeology named Indiana Jones is venturing in the jungles in South America searching for a golden statue. Unfortunately, he sets off a deadly trap doing so, miraculously, he escapes. Then, Jones hears from a museum curator named Marcus Brody about a biblical artifact called The Ark of the Covenant, which can hold the key to humanly existence. Jones has to venture to vast places such as Nepal and Egypt to find this artifact. However, he will have to fight his enemy Renee Belloq and a band of Nazis in order to reach it.”

The film, which also stars Karen Allen, John Rhys-Davies, Alfred Molina, and the late, great Denholm Elliott was followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984. The third film, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, was issued in 1989. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the much-maligned fourth installment in the franchise, was released in 2008.
