Did Fifth Harmony Push Back ‘7/27’ To Avoid A Chart Battle With Ariana Grande?

Could Fifth Harmony be backing down from a heated chart competition with Ariana Grande?

The Fifth Harmony girls took to Twitter on April 22 to announce that they would be pushing back the release of their upcoming sophomore album 7/27, and the date change has fans speculating that the girl band are steering clear of Grande’s upcoming release, Dangerous Woman.

Fifth Harmony revealed in a video posted on the social media that they would be pushing back the release of their new album by one week, meaning that 7/27 will now be available on May 27 rather than May 20, as originally scheduled.

“We just wanted to be the first to let you guys know that we have postponed our album only a week away, just one week, we promise,” Fifth Harmony revealed in the 47-second long clip uploaded to their official Twitter page, which featured all five of the girls, Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello, and Dinah Jane.

“So, before you lose it, here’s why,” Lauren told fans in the video, “Are you ready? So, the number 27, as you guys have probably already figured out, is quite important to us. It means a lot of different things, so, to keep cohesive with the theme of 27, we decided to push the one week to the 27th.”

The Fifth Harmony girls also captioned the clip “7/27 will now be coming out on May 27th. It just feels right to us.”

Bustle previously confirmed in February that the title of Fifth Harmony’s new release, 7/27, actually represents the date that the girls, who originally auditioned as solo artists, were put together as a five-piece girl group on the second season of The X Factor USA on July 27, 2012.

However, Fifth Harmony’s explanation about their album push back didn’t exactly convince everyone.

A number of social media users took to Twitter following the Fifth Harmony girls’ big announcement to accuse the girl band of changing their album date to avoid clashing with the release of Ariana Grande’s third studio album, Dangerous Woman, which is also scheduled for release on May 20.

“Fifth Harmony has bumped their album release date to May 27th!” Ariana Grande update account @ArianatorAware noted on Twitter following the announcement. “7/27 has no longer the same release date as Ariana’s Dangerous Woman.”

“Fifth Harmony pushing their album back because they’re threatened by Ariana they’re so embarrassing I can’t,” @jaggedlttlepill tweeted, while @arianaddictions claimed on the social media site, “Fifth harmony changed the date to the 27th because they knew Ariana was gonna snatch that #1 spot lmao.”

But it wasn’t just Ariana Grande fans who accused Fifth Harmony of moving out the way of the release of Grande’s Dangerous Woman. Even the “Sledgehammer” singer’s fans called out the girls for the week-long delay that puts them a week behind Ariana’s date.

“Let me translate for y’all,” Twitter user @DlNAHS727 wrote alongside a re-post of the video on Twitter on April 22, “Ariana’s album is coming out the 20th & we don’t want it to flop so…”

“They want to avoid the Ariana competition and I don’t blame them one bit,” @Yoshirox10 continued on Twitter, while @EXPLICITXCABEYO speculated that Fifth Harmony could even push the album back all the way to July. “Y’all gonna end up postponing it to 7|27 I can feel it,” the Twitter user wrote.

Fifth Harmony fan @brittanykordei also accused the girls of delaying their release by a week to avoid Ariana’s Dangerous Woman, simply replying to the band’s Twitter video “Ariana’s impact.”

What do you think of Fifth Harmony pushing back the release of 7/27 by one week? Do you think they’re avoiding the release of Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman?
