Doctor Who Attacked Uber Driver Fired By Hospital

A doctor at a Miami hospital has been fired because of a viral video that showed her attacking an Uber driver and his vehicle, the Miami Herald reports.

Anjali Ramkissoon, 30, has been on administrative leave since the video surfaced in January, and according to a statement released by a spokeswoman for Jackson Health System, was terminated from her position there Friday.

“Jackson Health System is moving forward with the termination of Dr. Anjali Ramkissoon, a resident doctor,” reads the official statement. “She is entitled to an appeal process.”

Ramkissoon, who was a four-year neurology resident at the hospital, was seen in the video attempting to strike and scratch the driver, kneeing him in the groin, climbing into the man’s vehicle and throwing objects out of it, all the while yelling and swearing at him and trying to force him to drive her home.

“Yeah, get in the (expletive) in car! Get the (expletive) in the car!” she can be heard yelling at the Uber driver in the video. “Yeah. Yeah. I bet they won’t. I bet they won’t. Get the (expletive) in the car you piece of (expletive). Get the (expletive) in the car!”

The driver has so far opted to remain anonymous and has declined to press charges.

Ramkissoon has been very public about her apology since the video surfaced, appearing on Good Morning America after her suspension to share her side of the story and help salvage her tarnished reputation. In addition to being intoxicated on the night of the incident, Ramkissoon reports that she’d been having a particularly trying day, with her father being hospitalized earlier that day and having broken up with her boyfriend of two years “just minutes” before the incident.

“There is absolutely no excuse for my actions,” Ramkissoon told George Stephanopoulos on GMA. “I am so sorry. I have hurt so many people with this. My family, my friends, my job, the Uber driver. Nobody deserves to be treated that way. That’s not me.”

Ramkissoon told GMA that the driver graciously accepted her apology on the spot, and expressed her gratitude that he never pressed charges.

“I did something extremely horrible,” she said on the show. “I’m here to own for what I did. I’m asking for forgiveness.”

“At the same time, I should also speak out, too,” Ramkissoon continued. “And use my story as a message, as a lesson. To be careful what you do in public. Because the things we do can be taped, and we can have to suffer severe ramifications for these things.”

The original viral video has accrued nearly seven million views as of this writing, and has sparked a lot of outrage and controversy.

“I notice in her apology, she said you have to be careful if you’re out in case somebody films you. So maybe this is how you normally act but never been caught on tape before. Ugly narcissistic human being. Very common this rubbish now. What an ugly society,” reads one top comment on the video.

“No, the worst thing is that she is a doctor, specifically a neurologist, potentially treating you. Such insufficiency. I would press charges. She must be out of the medical community,” says another.
