Craig Campbell Reveals Luke Bryan Gave Him The Best Advice He Ever Received

Craig Campbell is a country music singer and does a great job for himself, but he is now revealing that Luke Bryan gave him the best advice he ever received. Taste of Country shared the details about what Craig said Luke told him that helped his career. Craig actually used to tour with Luke before he became a solo act. He played the piano for Bryan and learned a lot from Luke while on tour with him.

Craig was a smart man to listen to Luke because obviously it has worked for him. Here is what he had to say about the advice he got from Bryan.

“We were sitting down having dinner one night and I was just picking his brain and I said, ‘Is there anything you can tell me, any advice you can give me to get my career moving?’ And he said, ‘If you’re not writing songs you need to.’ I took that advice and went back to Nashville and got to work and it was truly the best advice I ever got.”

There are people out there in country music that don’t write their own music, but Luke Bryan gave Craig Campbell the advice to start writing songs and he listened. After this, Craig Campbell’s career really started to improve. Craig went on to share one detail that he has learned on his own about songwriting.

“It’s hard to write a song you don’t know anything about. Pretty much every song I’ve written is either something that’s personal to me or something I know somebody’s been through. Just write about real life, that’s what it’s about.”

Craig Campbell’s career has been doing great as a singer, but his songwriting career just had a huge achievement. A song that he wrote is actually on the latest Garth Brooks’ album. This song “All-American Kid” is one he wrote with Brice Long and Terry McBride. Craig shared that a lot of writers wanted to get on that album and when they asked if Garth could have his song, of course, he let Garth Brooks have the song.

It turns out that Craig Campbell actually had to leave Luke Bryan’s band. CMT shared the details of what happened and why Craig had to move on. They both made the move to Nashville around the same time to work on their careers. Luke used to give out his demo CDs, and when they would perform, everyone already knew the words to his songs. So why did Craig Campbell end up leaving Luke Bryan’s band and moving on? He explained the details.

“Ultimately, Luke told me I shouldn’t be a sideman and that I’d thank him later. I can trace every bit of my success back to him. There’s a benefit to grinding away at it like that, because when I moved here, I thought I was ready. I wasn’t, but now I am.”
