Blake Shelton And Gwen Stefani Duet: ‘Go Ahead And Break My Heart’

It may be Blake Shelton’s album, but girlfriend and duet partner Gwen Stefani was the first to reveal the track listing to Shelton’s new album, If I’m Honest, an offering that would seem to include a duet from Stefani and Shelton, titled “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.” Following Gwen’s Twitter reveal, Blake publicly confirmed that both the track listing and news of the duet shared by Stefani are real and coming soon with the album’s release.

Blake Shelton And Gwen Stefani Spark Chemistry In Music As In Real Life

It may seem like a no-brainer for Stefani and Shelton to come together in the studio, as they have in their personal lives, but Blake says that the “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” duet to be found on his new album should be appreciated as much for its rarity as it may be for its genuine appeal. He says that it seemed only natural that he and Gwen should make this song together because of the situations that brought them together and enabled them each to love and to trust again. Shelton is quick to add, however, that fans shouldn’t expect to see the couple create very many duets in the future.

“[The song] is very personal for us both because, you know, we obviously have this bond that is remarkable together,” Shelton explained. “But the fact that we wrote a song together… I know that I don’t co-write that much because I’m very insecure about it, I guess, and [Gwen’s] kind of got her circle of people that she writes with. But for us to reach out to each other as writers, it may never happen again, who knows.”

As for Gwen jumping the gun with the revelation of the album’s cover and track listing, Blake says it wasn’t as impromptu as it may seem to fans. In fact, it was Shelton’s idea. He reveals that, as the cover artwork was completed, he suggested to Stefani that she tweet the images as a way of letting the public know that the two had created a duet.

“I hesitate to brag on it too much,” Shelton adds of his duet with Stefani, “but I really think that it’s as good of a song as I’ve ever written in my life.”

Gwen Stefani Gets Personal With This Is What the Truth Feels Like

Blake Shelton isn’t alone in issuing an album from the heart. Stefani’s own This Is What The Truth Feels Like is based on her own personal experiences, as well, turning the heartbreak and misery of her divorce from Gavin Rossdale into something positive. The album, which represents Gwen’s first solo performance in over 10 years, debuted on March 18 at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart.

“I have gone through a lot,” Ms. Stefani said. “But I feel like, that is, you have to be grateful for that. Because if I didn’t do that, then I wouldn’t have this. And so you have to be grateful for all of it.”

Coming to terms with the end of her life with Rossdale meant turning tragedy into something good, says Gwen. She turned to music because she knew that was where she could more readily use her talents, and created the music for This Is What The Truth Feels Like. While the album may have served as a form of therapy for Stefani in getting a grip on her divorce and helping her move on, not every song deals with the loss that accompanied Gwen’s divorce from Rossdale.

One song in particular explores the feelings of joy and hope Ms. Stefani felt reignited, as she first began to form a relationship with Shelton. Gwen smiles warmly, as she thinks of the early friendship she shared with Blake and how that helped her write “Make Me Like You” in record time.

“It just came out. It was like, I had been feeling that way. Like, it’s just exactly what I felt that day… ‘I miss you right now. Here it is.’ You know what I mean? And everybody in the room was just kind of like, ‘Whoa, this is happening right now.’ It was written fast. Like, 10, 15 minutes.”
