‘Battleborn’ Attracts Over Two Million Open Beta Players, Gearbox Software Confirms Free Skins At Launch

More than 2 million players fought amongst themselves or took the fight to the Varelsi in the open beta for Battleborn. The testing period may be over now, but Gearbox Software wants players to know what they managed to accomplish during the beta. Not to mention, the community challenge was completed which means players will get three free skins when the game launches.

The Battleborn team posted a few interesting statistics on what players completed during the open beta on the official website today. Among the two cooperative missions available during the open beta, players managed to defeat Geoff in the Algorithm mission over 1.5 million times. In the Void mission, players shut down 825,000 Varelsi portals after leading the Wolf sentry to its demise. Of the two competitive modes available in the open beta, 61 percent of matches were in the Incursion mode, while 39 percent of matches let players lead minions to their deaths in Meltdown.

Gearbox Software developers also noted the top three damage dealing heroes and the top three healing heroes according to their performance in the open beta. Oscar Mike, Marquis, and Thorn dealt the most damage of the 25 playable heroes. Clones, robot butlers, and orphan elves apparently know how to harass their foes. On the other more supportive hand, Miko, Ambra, and Rath managed to unleash the most healing. Miko and Ambra offer their sweet healing to their teammates while Rath leeches health from foes to stay afoot.

As stated on the 2k Blog, Gearbox Software is currently at PAX East where the team is revealing even more open beta statistics. The Inside Gearbox Software Panel did focus on Battleborn for a time and what players accomplished during the open beta. For instance, 46 billion shards were picked up across all cooperative and competitive matches, and players found over 9 million pieces of gear. More specific statistics were also given during the panel and can be found on the official Gearbox Software Twitter account. For instance, Toby managed to kill Thorn over 31,000 times, and players chose Galilea’s Duelist skill 66 percent of the time over her Mirror Knight helix option.

With just a little over a week remaining before Battleborn launches, Gearbox Software also reiterated today that the community did accomplish its open beta challenge. The 2 million players that tried the game out during the open beta managed to complete over 1.1 million competitive matches, finish 1.4 million story mode missions, and collect over 27 billion shards. These figures all exceed the goal laid out by the open beta challenge. As a reward, a universal SHiFT code will be available on May 3 that unlocks three special golden skins for Benedict, ISIC, and Shayne and Aurox. As the Inquisitr reported, players can link their existing SHiFT accounts or set up a new one within the Battleborn client on the day of launch. The SHiFT code will be present on the social media accounts belonging to Gearbox Software.

Battleborn will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 3. The hero shooter features 25 playable heroes at launch with another five coming post launch. Three competitive modes and various maps will be available when the game releases alongside nine repeatable story missions. Players will be able to level up in each match to choose and unlock powerful helix augments in addition to leveling up each character’s rank permanently. An overall Command Rank tracks a player’s account progress with 100 levels of rewards, titles, and more to be unlocked.
