‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer Offers New Clues About Plot

Ironically, 20th Century Fox released another trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence on Earth Day. The story behind this may have to do with the content in the trailer. People are supposed to be concerned with saving the environment on Earth Day when the trailer shows Earth getting blown to pieces.

The second trailer for the sequel to the 1996 film Independence Day gives more explanations to some major plot holes in the film. Fans are getting a small glimpse of the destruction that is set to come to Earth.

Warning! If you have not seen the first Independence Day, there are spoilers ahead!

From the little clips that are shown, it is obvious the aliens from the previous film are back to finish the job. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, and Vivicia A. Fox will all reprise their roles from the first installment of the franchise.

Casting Brent Spiner, who plays Dr. Brakish Okun, was a strange choice. There is a scene where he clearly died in the first Independence Day film. He is strangled to death while performing an autopsy on an alien that suddenly came to life.

Dr. Okun is seen in the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer looking alive and well. The film may provide an actual reason why Dr. Okun survived or simply just leave it up the viewers’ imagination. The odds are that they managed to revive Dr. Okun with reverse alien technology.

Resurgence emphasizes the fact that the human race was able to use reverse technology to prepare themselves for the next impending attack from this mystery alien race. It is possible that in addition to weaponry, they gained some sort of technological advancements in the medical field to revive Dr. Okun. He is seen with some sort of cast or wrap around his neck when he appears.

From the early rumors surrounding the film, fans were already aware Will Smith would not reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller. The trailer gives us a hint that his son, Dylan Hiller, decided to take up the same career path as his father.

Jessie Usher is set to play Dylan Hiller. In the trailer it is clear that the story 20th Century Fox decided to go with is the more obvious one. The trailer reveals that Steven Hiller died at some point in time after Independence Day.

Dylan Hiller seems like he is going to become the kind of leader that his father was. He is seen getting into a plane to go fight in an air battle and trying to inspire a room of people to fight against the aliens.

President Whitmore, who is played by Bill Pullman, has another pivotal role in this film as well. He is seen throughout the entire trailer. There is a brief glimpse of his daughter at the start of the trailer, referring to some sort of “anniversary.” His daughter is all grown up now and has a boyfriend in the Air Force.

Chris Hemsworth plays the “boyfriend” and fighter pilot of President Whitmore’s daughter. He appears fighting alongside Jeff Goldblum’s character, David Levinson.

The trailer lets Independence Day fans know that the aliens are back and more dangerous than ever. They appear to have some sort of gravity-shifting device that can pick cities and slam them into oblivion.

The cities seen are unidentifiable due to the amount of destruction going on. At the very end of the trailer, you could see that London was being attacked. The London bridge was destroyed by the “gravity shifting device.”

The whole world is different from the one that fans have seen in the previous 1996 film. Earth is more advanced on all fronts because of the alien technology left behind from the previous battle. The film actually resembles scenes from the Mass Effect video game trilogy, which focuses on a lot of the same theories.

Independence Day: Resurgence is set to release June 24.
