Evelyn Lozada Files For Divorce From Chad Johnson

Just 41 days after Evelyn Lozada and Chad Johnson tied the knot on the island of St. Martin in the Caribbean, the Basketball Wives star has filed for divorce.

TMZ reports that Lozada, who was allegedly head-butted by Johnson during a heated argument over infidelity, filed legal documents in Florida today, claiming her marriage to the former NFL receiver is “irretrievably broken.”

“It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles,” Lozada said in a statement released earlier today. “Domestic violence is not okay, and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well.”

According to police reports, Lozada suffered a gash in her forehead after she confronted Johnson about a receipt for a box of condoms that she found in her Maserati.

“It gets pretty heated,” Davie Police Department Capt. Dale Engle told The Sun Sentinel. “By the time they get home here in Davie it’s pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say, she has a good laceration on her forehead.”

After the altercation, Lozada ran to a neighbor’s house who then phoned the police on her behalf. Johnson, 34, was arrested and spent the night at Broward County jail before posting $2500 bail the following day.

Since the domestic dispute, which took place Saturday night, August 11, Chad Johnson has been released from the Miami Dolphins and the couples’ upcoming VH1 reality show, Ev & Ocho, has been canceled by the network.

The Christian Post adds that Johnson has also been ordered by a judge to stay away from Lozada and to avoid all contact until his charges are resolved.
