‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spoilers, Episode 1220 Recap Part 2: The Doctors Are ‘Trigger Happy’

Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 Episode 20 uses the episode title “Trigger Happy” as a double innuendo. The Grey’s Anatomy doctors often have a bad habit of “jumping the gun” at both work and in their personal lives. The episode also deals with an accidental shooting that involves two 8-year-old boys and a gun found in one of their homes. ABC shared this episode synopsis,

“The doctors work frantically to save a young boy who was accidentally shot. Meanwhile, Arizona is upset when Callie tries to make an important decision about Sophia’s future without consulting her.”

Episode 1220 of Grey’s Anatomy focuses mainly on three of the Grey Sloan Memorial doctors. Dr. Callie Torres and Dr. Arizona Robbins are struggling to come up with a solution for the situation with their daughter, Sofia, while Dr. Stephanie Edwards is questioning her relationship with a patient, Kyle Diaz.

At the beginning of the episode, Callie and Arizona meet at a coffee house to discuss their daughter, Sofia. During the two-hour special airing of Episodes 1218 and 1219, Callie made the decision to move to New York with her girlfriend, Dr. Penny Blake, who was just awarded the Preminger Grant in Episode 1217. The grant requires Penny to move to New York for one year. As Callie sits down, she hands Arizona two school brochures for schools in New York. Arizona makes it very clear to Callie that she never said it was okay for her to take their daughter all the way across the country. They agree they will discuss things later and head to work.

Later in Grey’s Anatomy Episode 1220, Callie tells Grey’s Anatomy chief, Dr. Miranda Bailey, that she will be moving to New York to be with Penny. Bailey asks Callie if she has already found another job as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery. Callie lets her know she has several hospitals that are interested, but none of them are as Chief of Ortho. Bailey scolds Callie for “chasing tail” and losing rank in her field. Callie seems offended, but later goes to Arizona and lets her know she “jumped the gun.” Unfortunately, earlier in the day Arizona received a call from one of the schools in New York. Callie went behind her back and turned in an application assuming she could take Sofia without any issues. Arizona then lets Callie know she has hired a lawyer. There is going to be a custody battle on Grey’s Anatomy.

Dr. Stephanie Edwards is also featured in Episode 1220 of Grey’s Anatomy. In Grey’s Anatomy Episode 1217, viewers were first introduced to MS patient Kyle Diaz, played by guest star Wilmer Valderrama. Kyle first entered the hospital for a procedure to help stop his tremor, a side effect of the multiple sclerosis. Kyle started flirting with Edwards from the moment she walked into his hospital room. Since then they have been flirting nonstop via text message, but that is as far as it has gone. Kyle texts Stephanie to let her know he wants to go out on a date, but she is hesitant to move their relationship forward out of fear the magic from the text messages will end and reality will set in. Grey’s Anatomy does not have a great history when it comes to love stories. Eventually, Stephanie gives in to the date and the last fans see Kyle and Stephanie, they are in a music studio getting hot and heavy.

During the Grey’s Anatomy two-hour special of Episodes 18 and 19, fans were shocked when Dr. Miranda Baily suspended her husband, Dr. Ben Warren, for a poor choice he made that ended the lives of two patients. While a review board determined Dr. Warren’s actions did not warrant punishment, Miranda took the drastic action of suspending him from the surgical residency program for six months. In Grey’s Anatomy Episode 1220, Ben goes behind Bailey’s back and applies to be an anesthesiologist at Grey Sloan Memorial. Bailey does not control this part of the hospital, so she tells Ben he can accept the position, but he will have to find another place to live. Ben takes the position.

Grey’s Anatomy fans will be jumping for joy, because it seems there might be a little hope for “Japril.” At the end of Grey’s Anatomy Episode 1220, April asks Jackson if he will join her for her prenatal appointment the next morning and Jackson says yes. Do you think “Japril” could be a thing again? Leave your feedback in the comments section below, and tune into ABC to watch Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday at 8/7c.
