Taylor Swift may be happy with new beau Connor Kennedy, but that doesn’t mean she’s done singing about yet another failed relationship. The 22-year-old Grammy winner released her new single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” from her upcoming Red album.
Swift won’t say which famous ex she is addressing — it could be Joe Jonas, or Taylor Lautner, or maybe Jake Gyllenhaal — but she did tell “Good Morning America” what the song is about. Swift said:
“This guy walks in who is a friend of my ex’s and starts talking about how he’s heard we’re going to get back together. And that was not the case. So I start telling them the story: break up, get back together, break up, get back together – just, ugh, the worst! And I picked up the guitar and [songwriting partner Max Martin] said, ‘This is what we’re writing.’”
In a web chat live from Nashville Monday, Swift sarcastically called the song “really touching and sensitive,” and that it was a “really romantic song that’s to my lovely ex-boyfriend.”
Red is set to be released October 22, but “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is available on iTunes now. You can also listen to the track below.
Taylor Swift said she named the album Red because of all the different emotions she explores. The album had been in the works for two years, and will feature 16 new tracks. Unlike Speak Now, which Swift wrote entirely by herself, Red will feature collaborations with several artists, songwriters and producers.
