I find it funny that people think he can just "stop" doing drugs, like it is no big deal whatsover. Party Monster is a serious artistic achievement and won almost unanimous praise from critics. I also have someone close to me that I love killing herself on meth. So you don't know my comment was not from the angle you thought. I have to say that addicts' behaviors affects the whole family dynamic. An addict isn t just hurting himself, he/she is basically slowly killing the spirits of those who love them. You want to help, but you can t enable, so you re left to stand by and watch your loved one slowly die….tough love can work but the addict has to want to get help and be sober, which in the very best of circumstances is still very difficult.

Honestly, I don't think Celebrity Rehab is the answer to this young man's problem. Haven't you observed that several celebrities have passed away after their participation in that program, not to mention that facilities has been under investigation by The California Department of Public Health after the death of 3 patients and one sexual assault in that place within a 5 month period. You are all very right, he definitely needs help. It would be great if his family would stop making excuses and come together to stage an intervention for Culkin. It breaks my heart to see him in this condition that I know has nothing to do with Michael Jackson.

There is a long history of Hollywood child stars dying early due to drugs and alcohol. Don't you think that it may have something to do with the Industry itself. When these kids are no longer able to produce the level of income for the Big Wigs, then they are just cast aside and later ends up dead in a bathtub of water due to an overdose of prescription drugs. Doctors are only keeping drug addicts addicted to drugs by giving the other drugs. I know firsthand because my 30 year old son is an addict and he gets all kinds of money and drugs from the government for being a drug addict. The each morning he goes to the methadone clinic. Government needs their slaves and useful idiots to keep their jobs- and everyone knows a drug addict has diminished brain power, turning smart people into idiots.

While I tend to agree with you, Don. I have a son who was never abused. But his father abused me and I divorced him. Then his father walked out of his children's lives. (He then killed himself in 2001- drugs.) My son was 10 when that happened and he got into drugs 2 years later and everything I have ever tried did not work, so all I can do is love him and pray he will find a way out. He lives 40 miles from me and I see him only once a year or so since he was 15. My ex did not have a drug habit while we were married but got into them with his second wife. I have three other children who are not addicts and are all adults and live full lives, so some people have the genetic disposition to try to escape through drugs/alcohol. Very sad.

You apparently don't know much about addiction. Celebrity Rehab is not to blame for these addicts overdosing but rather the drug and addiction is. Out of ten people treated for addiction, one person will recover, those are the shocking statistics and it will not change no matter where you are treated. There are two common outcomes for people suffering from addiction, they are jail and death; that is all. Unfortunately, jail usually comes before they die by overdosing. If you went to any other rehab center, there would be the same amount of deaths that you have seen at Celebrity Rehab, sorry, but that is the ugly truth of addiction. I agree that the industry is corrupt, anything with that much money always is; however, we see the industry being corrupt and actors/actresses struggling because it is on television but yet, this is not uncommon in everyday life, we just focus on it because we feel like we know these people. I see people in the industry that do not do drugs and fall with the wrong crowd, but yet, we blame the industry? Corruption is everywhere, it is whether or not we can stand against corruption and turn our heads away from it rather than embracing it. I never blame people for their addiction but rather the addiction itself; I never blame others for making them addicts, but again, the addiction itself. Many people have faced difficulties and do not fall into drugs/alcohol as a way to self medicate, it is because those that do self medicate suffer from a disease and it is that disease that must be treated.

You are very naive about the effects of child molestation. Almost all of the children in show business who spent time in the company of MJ have suffered some kind of emotional or substance abuse issues. These were children who were probably already being exploited by adults using them in the TV or movie industries, couple that with being molested by someone like MJ and you have a receipe for disaster. I have no proof but having been a survivor of child sexual abuse my instincts as a result of it are screaming. You can't force people to take that kind of abuse seriously and those who don't want to believe it don't have to. All I know is I feel great compassion for those who have been victimized that way.

Jn Brown- My son was made a drug addict by doctors trying to help him deal with his father walking out on him. My ex-husband was an abuser; after I divorced him he stopped seeing his children and did not pay child support and then killed himself in 2001. So the docs instead of helping him with counseling gave him drugs and he learned to escape reality at the age of 9. I certainly do not want my son on the street. After he got out of prison for stabbing his roommate he was working but the drugs he was given in prison to keep him calm are drugs often abused- Ritalin, xanax, klonopin, methadone , and such; the doc kept giving him more and higher doses. Once drugs took over his life he became more violent and I believe he saw himself as being like his father. (I never once told him he was like his father.) He then applied for disability after a series of firings because of physical abuses to fellow employees and coming to work intoxicated in one form or another. As I said I do not want him on the street- but when they approved him the government dropped $40,000 in his lap. He spent $9,000 in the first weekend on cocaine alone. We tried to get him to buy a mobile home on a 1/4 acre land, put away some money to pay for taxes and expenses or have someone trustworthy else hold on to it for him to ensure that he always has a home. But by the end of the third week all of it was gone, 90% was spent on drugs for himself and a few choice friends. He ostracized himself from the family many years ago, but we keep in contact over the phone, regular mail, and we see him once a year or so. I blame the government for making it easy for him to be a drug addict and for keeping him one. As far as the love I have for my son- it began when I found out I was expecting and is as strong as ever. Plus he has always loved his mother-love between him and the family was never the issue- his father dumping him was! So vincentmerkel, you have no idea what you are talking about and I feel sorry for you. I hope you never have to see one of your children going through his hell. I hope no one has to see their child in such pain and watch drugs rob them of a happy life. Unfortunately the government really does not give a damn. Throwing money at problems never fixes them. My son is unhappy as a drug addict and the fact that the government is complicit in keeping him that way pisses me off. I do not want to bury my son because of the damn drugs! I do not do drugs or drink. (I am small business owner and college student-3rd year with a very high GPA- I am also disabled with Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. So if I wanted I could sit on my butt and be a government slave and given a small stipend that leaves one with no hope.) I am always here for my children, they and my grandchildren are the most important people in my life. In support groups over the year I have heard many stories that sound very similar to ours. I have 3 other children who are not drug addicts. My oldest son works 2 jobs and is lead singer of a local rock band, and my youngest son works two jobs, my daughter is a stay home wife, she was a nurses aid and med tech-studying to be a nurse, in a old folks home for over a decade until she got burned out from losing so many patients.

Not all people need have PTSD, stress, traumatic head injury nor history of child abuse but can be PRE-DISPOSED; hereditary or organic brain disease to mental illness. Recently U.S. Veterans Affairs have shown similar evidence in psychological studies, i.e. 80% of those w/addictions suffer some form mental health issue. If doctors, the public, public schools, military would ACCEPT rather than DENY signs of mental illness, the country would be much better off as a whole. We'd live in a safer and healthier environment and more people could live a full quality of life. It's time for U.S. officials, state mental health departments to have ACCEPTANCE of mental illness like they do other human illnesses, therefore more would receive treatment and live a good quality of life. DENIAL kills us all. STIGMA AND DENIAL KILLS, ACCEPTANCE and TREATMENT/INTERVENTION SAVES LIVES, FAMILIES and BRINGS ABOUT HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES in the process.

I have no idea what is going on, but he clearly is too thin, perhaps anorexia? He has been in turmoil since childhood, his family was so dysfunctional that he sought solace in his friendship with MJ, who knows what tthat was, he had to sue his parents, his relationship ended and he appears to be a little lost. Where do you go when you peak at 14? But whatever he is dealing with, this "family concern" appears just another attempt to get attention and perhaps $$ by speaking to the media vultures. I am sure he has a support system that is looking after him, so we should just back off and let him figure his stuff out on his own.

My dad is now in prison and I'm 14 now back with my mother who is straight. Maybe he has a lot of his mind and even if he is on drugs that's his choice no one should judge him. I think that ideal is misread sometimes. Obviously we know people can't just stop using drugs. There is a procees and we are aware of it. BUT, the person CAN realize the damage to themself they are doing and get the help they need at any time. the reason celebrities are more prone to drug addiction that others is because the constant, overwhelming attention is addicting. Once the child stars "outgrow" their roles, they go through withdrawal, which they usually attribute to a flagging career or adolescent depression. Then when they first try drugs, they love it so much more than the average person – because their addiction circuits have already been strengthened. It is truly sad when we allow children to get addicted to things, before they can even begin to understand it.
