‘Deadliest Catch’ Accused Of Faking Storm Scenes In Season 4 Premiere

The show Deadliest Catch has just returned to Discovery for Season 4, and they are already being accused of faking scenes for the new season. The Hollywood Reporter shared details about why they believe that the Season 4 premiere of The Deadliest Catch had a few things that were faked for added drama. The season started out with a huge storm in the Bering Sea.

During Deadliest Catch, they were on a crab boat called The Wizard. There was a large storm and waves were seen hitting the boat. The crew even found out that the staterooms were flooding. They made it seem like the boat on Deadliest Catch could be sinking, and things were pretty scary.

It turns out that this might not be the entire truth. This boat on Deadliest Catch actually flooded back in September, but that is not when the storm happened. These huge storm waves happened in October. Allegations are that someone at Deadliest Catch took these two scenes and put them together so that they could make it look a lot worse.

The Hollywood Reporter was even able to get a hold of documents from Discovery that were an outline for this episode. Here is what it revealed.

“WIZARD ROGUE WAVE: Combine Wizard leak story on 9/26 with the Wizard being hit by a big wave on 10/1 and 10/2. The fiction we are constructing is that the big wave hit the Wizard on their steam up to Dutch — caused a leak in Lenny’s stateroom. In reality these were two separate events. In addition to the original source material, (a producer’s name omitted by THR) shot re-enactment footage.”

It is normal for “reality” television shows to change things up, but Discovery says that Deadliest Catch is a documentary. Discovery president and general manager John Ford is revealing that the document THR was able to find was an early draft that was later rejected and not used at all. Ford gave a statement explaining the details.

“The Wizard was struck by a big wave, and that wave caused the leak you see in the show,” Ford said. “The thing we didn’t have on camera was the actual wave that struck the Wizard. That was shot at a separate time on the same journey and was an insert edit from the show. We did that for story continuity because we didn’t have a boat-to-boat shot. Everything that you see in the show happened. Nothing is made up and nothing needs to be made up. The Wizard was struck by a big wave, and that wave caused the leak you see in the show. The show is 100% authentic.”

When Deadliest Catch used a reenactment scene before, they put it in black and white and even shared the details that it was a reenactment, so they were not hiding anything from viewers. It would be pretty shocking if they did fake a scene for their new season.

Deadliest Catch on Facebook shared that Wild Bill Greenhorn even sleep walks sometimes when he is in charge of the boat. They aren’t shy about revealing all of the truth about what goes on with their boats. Fans hope that it isn’t true that they faked anything for the show.

Are you shocked to hear that Deadliest Catch allegedly faked some scenes to make it look more dramatic? Do you think that they were just trying to bring in ratings?
