Sharon Tate’s Bloody Murder At The Hands of Charles Manson’s ‘Family’ Recalled To Megyn Kelly By Her Younger Sister

In 1969, Sharon Tate was a beautiful movie star who was married to famed movie director Roman Polanski, and she was eight-and-a-half months pregnant with their first child. But one night, she was brutally murdered by the Charles Manson “family,” referring to his closest followers in his cult.

Last night, Megyn Kelly of Fox News’ The Kelly File interviewed Debra Tate, Sharon’s sister, about what happened in light of news that Sharon’s killer, Leslie Van Houten, has received the recommendation of her parole board that she be given parole.

Debra Tate recalled how she first heard of her sister Sharon’s death. Sharon and Polanski lived “the Camelot life” as an “A-List,” “jet-setting couple” who had two homes.

Prior to her sister’s death, Debra Tate had no knowledge of the Manson family. She first heard of Sharon’s death through her boyfriend, who heard on the radio that Polanski’s and Tate’s house was on fire. Debra called the radio station, then the fire station, who said that was not true. After several hours of phone calls, they finally learned through the police that Sharon was murdered.

Because her mother was “obviously totally distraught and out of her mind,” her father unavailable, and Polanski was in Europe filming a movie, Debra, then 16, was asked by police to identify her sister’s body. Thankfully, Bill Tennant, who was Polanski’s and Tate’s manager, happened to come to their house, and he was able to identify Sharon’s body instead.

Kelly asked Tate if “there is any recovery” from her sister Sharon’s death “all these years later.”

“I think that I’ve recovered from it. You know, different people express and deal with things differently. I’ve chosen to take a position, an active position of power, rather than let it knock me down and compromise me — my life. I’m going to come up swinging.”

Tate has been at every parole hearing for Van Houten. Since she is the last living member of her family, Tate said it is “a long-standing family tradition… I have to do it.”

When asked by Kelly if she believed that parole boards have an “intimate understanding” of the crimes of Van Houten and the Manson “family,” Tate said, “No, I do not.” She said that the district attorney was not allowed to Van Houten’s latest parole meeting to “mention the brutalities that occurred during the murder,” most especially that Sharon Tate was stabbed fourteen times by Van Houten. This is so because the parole commissioner has that discretion, said Tate, “after hour-and-a-half hours of hearing how wonderful Leslie is.”

Debra Tate was allowed to speak on behalf of her sister, as well as the family of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, other victims of the Manson family who could not be there.

Kelly asked Tate if she believed that society has forgotten about Charles Manson and the nine murders he and his followers committed in nine weeks in 1969.

“I think they would like to forget,” Tate replied. “I personally would like to forget. But I’m here to be the bearer of bad news. If these people come out, it is going to repeat itself. It opens the door, and this is only the beginning.”

“I really don’t want to see anybody go through what my family and [the] other victims that I represent what I see them going through.”

The segment was web-only, and it came on the heels of Kelly’s TV interview with Tate where they discussed the possibility of Leslie Van Houten, Sharon’s killer, being released on parole.

During the on-air segment, reporter Trace Gallagher reported that Van Houten’s supporters say that at the time she murdered Sharon Tate, Van Houten was “a victim of Charles Manson’s mind control.” Van Houten’s supporters maintain that after her forty-six years of imprisonment without a single violation, she is no longer a threat to society. Van Houten has said she is “remorseful, and deeply ashamed.”

Tate denied those claims, saying, “I’m not sure I buy the ‘under the influence of a madman,’ ” stating that there were many Manson family members who chose not to participate in the killings, whose victims included 26-year-old Sharon Tate.
