Ed Sheeran Lookalike’s Impromptu Serenade At Rugby Game: Fans Sing In Unison

Ed Sheeran is riding high after winning two Grammy Awards for his single, “Thinking Out Loud,” in the best pop solo performance and song of the year categories. Billboard reported that the English singer-songwriter has signed with Creative Arts Agency for global representation outside the USA and Canada.

In North America, he will continue to be represented by Paradigm Talent Agency.

Ed Sheeran recently wrapped up an exhaustive 179-date worldwide jaunt while promoting his X album. His promotional tour led him to win the Breakthrough Artist award at the Billboard Touring Conference and Awards last November.

Ed Sheeran’s second album X has earned double-platinum status, with two million sales in the U.S. by February this year. After he had finished touring in December last year, Ed Sheeran declared on Instagram that he would be taking a break from social media and making the most of the opportunity to travel the world and enjoy everything he felt he had missed out on while concentrating so intently on his music career.

The Grammy award winner also hinted that his third solo album is due to be released, and it will contain some of his best work.

Ed Sheeran’s humility has gone a long way to earn him accolades from his fans and peers alike. Back in 2015, Ed Sheeran booked a secret show in Dublin, where he invited his old mate, fellow singer/songwriter Jamie Lawson, to perform on one of his songs.

Ed Sheeran had previously teamed with Jamie Lawson back in 2010 while playing in London, during the now long-forgotten days before he found the phenomenal fame that he now enjoys. Years later, Jamie Lawson says that Ed Sheeran is the same person that he had always been, even after selling millions of records and enjoying so much fame. Jamie Lawson was very appreciative of Ed Sheeran for being so humble in an arena where celebrities and artists often get carried away by their star power.

“It was like no time had passed. He had gone through all this stuff, but was the same kid. [Fame] would’ve changed a lot of people, shifted how they are to other people. He didn’t seem too affected. He’s very free with his time; he’s a lovely guy.”

Rolling Stone reported that Ed Sheeran has signed Jamie Lawson to perform under Gingerbread Man records: Ed’s own label, through which Jamie Lawson released his 2015 self-titled album that has since reached gold status in the U.K.

Even though Ed Sheeran has announced his temporary departure from social media, his fans are seeking every opportunity to pay tribute to Ed Sheeran. The Daily Mail reported that during the Munster Junior Cup rugby final between two schools in Limerick, Ireland, the supporters of the team Christian Brothers College (CBC) team spotted a bearded steward who they thought to be an Ed Sheeran lookalike.

Like Ed Sheeran, the rugby football stadium steward sported a mop of red hair, and his physical resemblance with Ed Sheeran amazed the crowds, with supporters bursting out with laughter. The lookalike steward enjoyed a few moments of fame at the rugby match when fans decided to compliment him by singing Ed Sheeran’s hit single “Thinking Out Loud.” The Irish Independent Park steward smiled with embarrassment as the charged-up fans held their hands up in the air and started singing the lyrics of the hit song in chorus while the steward stood on the pitch. And after a while, suddenly, the fans began to chant the 2014 chart-topping tune from the second verse:

“And baby my heart could still fall as hard at 23; And I’m thinking ’bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways”

The crowd erupted into cheers and clapped after singing the last stanza of the song in unison. On that day, fans must have missed Ed Sheeran and probably wished that their star was in their midst during their impromptu act. Sadly, the chanting and the enthusiasm of the supporters didn’t energize their rugby heroes, and eventually CBC lost the rugby game. However, irrespective of the result of the game, it seems that the real hero of the day was the lucky steward, who was instrumental in charging up the crowds for the impromptu Ed Sheeran tribute performance that had everyone talking.
