‘Star Wars Episode VIII’: Is Rey A Reincarnation Of This Former Sith Lord?

According to E! Online, at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, a bold fan dared to ask the director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams, about Rey’s parents. Abrams responded by stating that Rey’s parents are not in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Of course, the director couldn’t divulge who Rey’s parents are, but Abrams did mention it is something the Rey thinks about often.

This admission by Abrams rules out Luke, Leia, or Han Solo as her parents which means she isn’t related to Kylo Ren in any way. Prior to Abrams’ admission, fans came up with various origin stories for Rey’s Jedi lineage. Some fans suggested she is the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Another theory suggests she could be a descendant of another force sensitive character, Emperor Palpatine.

Shippers of Rey and Kylo are particularly excited by this news from Abrams, as it leaves things open for a possible romance between the two of them in the future. In addition, many of them think a force bond was created between Kylo and Rey, which may end up leading Kylo away from the Darkside.

Games Rader was on site at the MTV Movie Awards, where Star Wars actress, Daisy Ridley responded to rumors that Rey is connected to Jyn Erso. The character, played by actress Felicity Jones, is the lead protagonist in the upcoming spin-off film Star Wars: Rouge One. Ridley quickly shot down this idea while being interviewed by MTV.

“I’m not being funny, you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mum.”

Having read the script for Star Wars Episode VIII, Ridley does know who Rey’s parents are, but Ridley doesn’t think that information is important to the overall story.

“I think the amazing thing about it is that Finn [played John Boyega] and Rey is that they don’t come from anywhere and they find a place.”

With all of the old theories and rumors being debunked, the Week reports a brand new theory has emerged. Reddit user LouEvilOne claims he has read the script and has inside knowledge of the Star Wars Episode VIII story. Apparently, the new film will have many plot twists, which will reveal a number of unexpected details, including who Rey’s parents are.

Warning: There are possible spoilers ahead. None of this has been confirmed as fact, but it does contain some interesting details if true. Turn away now if you don’t want to know.

“Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker,” claims LouEvilOne.

He also states the Star Wars film will reveal that Rey is the reincarnation of Darth Vader, and the new film will be titled Star Wars Episode VIII: Echoes of the Dark Side.

The entire post with the script reveals is available via Reddit. The post alleges Luke Skywalker goes into isolation to better understand the process of the force and reincarnation.

“The spirit of the chosen one is reincarnated by the Force every time the universe is thrown out of balance. This explains why Rey is so crazy powerful with the Force. Also, remember that Anakin blew up the Trade Federation ship by himself when he was just 8 years old,” LouEvilOne wrote.

Several Reddit users have expressed doubt about the claims, but many generally approved of the content.

“Fake or not, these are always fun reads,” one user wrote.

“Spoilerman’s story wasn’t half bad. Plus, it didn’t have a Death Star in it,” another commented.

Whether or not there is any truth to LouEvilOne claims, all will be revealed when Star Wars Episode VIII is released in December 2017.
