As promised, the GOP are moving forward with their planned lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder. The battle over the controversial “Fast and Furious” program isn’t over yet, and the scandal-ridden AG is now headed to court over it.

Just as Darrell Issa promised, he’s set to give AG Eric Holder his day in court over the Fast and Furious scandal. The California lawmaker, backed by his powerful House committee, filed suit today against Eric Holder to hand over all documents related to the botched gun-running operation. Reports Newser, the lawsuit aims to overturn an executive order issued by President Barack Obama back in June, ceasing the investigation into Holder’s role in the Fast and Furious program. “The Attorney General’s conception of the reach of ‘executive privilege,’ were it to be accepted, would cripple congressional oversight of Executive branch agencies,” the suit asserted.

“The Committee asks this Court to reject the Attorney General’s assertion of ‘Executive privilege’ and order him forthwith to comply with the Committee’s subpoena,” the suit continues.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee led by Issa has investigated the ATF’s controversial and failed attempt to track approximately 2,200 guns over the Mexico border. Many of these guns have since been linked to crimes in Mexico and across the international border into Arizona, including the death of one US border agent, Brian Terry. During Issa’s investigation, Holder balked at questions, putting the investigation into stalemate until President Obama issued the executive order. Democrats are now insisting that Issa’s lawsuit against Holder amounts to a careless waste of taxpayer dollars, reports ABC News. But Issa sees himself as following smoke to fire, and has called Obama’s executive privilege “a calculated political maneuver” meant to conceal incriminating documents related to the gun-running program until after the November election.
