NFL Rumors: Los Angeles Rams Drafting Jared Goff

NFL rumors are swirling around Jared Goff. The Los Angeles Rams made waves a couple days ago by acquiring the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft from the Tennessee Titans. The Rams are in need of a franchise quarterback, and Goff could be the guy. According to ESPN, Los Angeles is leaning towards picking the California native with the top overall pick. The team will still have two weeks to decide if Goff will be worth the gamble.

The Los Angeles Rams already have some good building blocks on offense. Last year, the team drafted Todd Gurley with the 10th overall pick and has proven he is the real deal. Jeff Fisher and the Rams ran most of their offense through the former Georgia Bulldogs superstar. Another person who stepped up was wide receiver Tavon Austin. The former West Virginia Mountaineer star did his damage through the ground game and special teams. Now all the offense needs will be a quality NFL quarterback.

Last season, the Los Angeles Rams traded for Nick Foles, who they thought would be the franchise quarterback. Things didn’t turn out the way the Rams expected them to. Jeff Fisher benched the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in favor of Case Keenum. Keenum played five games this season, and put up impressive numbers in a short stint. When the team first moved back to Los Angeles, the team announced that Keenum will be the starting quarterback heading into training camp.

The Los Angeles Rams taking Jared Goff first overall will be huge for the city and team. Goff grew up in California and went to the University of California. The former Golden Bears quarterback started every season he was there. Each season, Goff improved his quarterback rating and stats. He is a very smart quarterback who doesn’t make that many mistakes and is mobile in the pocket. Goff broke the Pac-12 passing yardage record and also set a new conference touchdown record during his last year at Cal. Many scouts believe Goff is more NFL ready than Carson Wentz due to his time with the Golden Bears.

For the next two weeks, there will many discussions about who should be taken with the top pick in the NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Rams are looking at both Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. The argument for the Rams to draft Wentz is due his size, arm strength, athleticism, and football intelligence. Many scouts believe the former North Dakota State quarterback will need a couple of years to develop. Many scouts believe Goff is someone who can come in right away and be a starter day one.

No matter who will be starting at quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, they shouldn’t be worried about playing catch-up. The Rams have a very stout defense with Aaron Donald and Mark Barron leading them. The defense led them to key victories against their division rivals. Their defense last year would have been one of the best if it wasn’t for injuries.

Jared Goff shouldn’t have to worry much about gaining media attention. The Los Angeles Rams have been getting a lot of media exposure ever since the team moved back to southern California. Having the first overall selection on the field will also bring further attention from the media.

The Los Angeles Rams selecting Jared Goff first overall in the NFL Draft would mean they believe he is ready to help the team win now. Goff wouldn’t be forced to throw much because Todd Gurley will still be the focal point of the offense. Not only is there Gurley, the Rams defense will keep them in the game. But for Goff, he will have a lot of pressure to produce right away since he will the first quarterback taken.
