Spice Girls Reunite At Olympics’ Closing Ceremony
Some time ago, before the world knew the names of Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm and Melanie Brown they knew them by a different name. The Spice Girls, individually Posh Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, Sporty Spice and Scary Spice were among the biggest British acts of the 1990s.
With London spending its final minutes on the world’s biggest stage, they brought them back. The Spice Girls, along with a host of other famous acts, headlined the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics on Sunday, marking the first time the group had performed publicly since their last reunion more than four years ago.
The Spice Girls hit it big with their hit single “Wannabe” in 1996 and the subsequent hype drew some comparisons to “Beatlemania” with “Wannabe” becoming the No. 1 song in 30 countries.
The Spice Girls closing ceremony performance included their playing ”Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life.” People reported that the girls performed the songs with not only the same gusto, but the same wardrobe the world remembered them for wearing two decades ago.
CBSNews reports that after the performance, Victoria Beckham tweeted “We did it!! I love u girls so much!!!!! xxx.”
Beckham appeared in the closing ceremony twice. The singer is also a designer and one of her designs was used earlier in the show.
It wasn’t the first time the Spice Girls have made the news this year as the quintet came together to announce details of “Viva Forever,” a musical based on their songs that is set to begin in London this fall.

They were awesome! I’m so glad I recorded the event, just for those three, amazing minutes! I’ve already replayed it a million times for my friends and a few ladies around the office at Dish that missed out the first time. Luck for them (and me), I have the Dish Remote Access App, which connects my tablet to my home DVR through the sling adapter, so I can pull up the recording from anywhere. I’ll probably end up playing it a million more times before the day is over! LOL!
