Rumors Of Macaulay Culkin’s Drug Use And Reitrement Resurface

Although they are rare, there have been several Macaulay Culkin sightings lately, and Culkin is almost unrecognizable. Rumors have surfaced that the actor, 35, and best known for the Home Alone series of films, has decided to retire from acting, as he says he has other things to do. This, along with his wan appearance, is leading fans to suspect he could be under the influence of drugs.

Child stars who have chosen to shun the spotlight as adults seem to be a trend right now. Most notably, according to the Inquisitr, are the Olsen twins, who were invited to return to television for the reunion of Full House on Netflix, now called Fuller House. The rest of the cast returned, but Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen said no thanks, as their careers are now in fashion and not acting.

People Magazine is reporting that Macaulay Culkin confirms that he is “essentially retired” and prefers a nocturnal lifestyle.

“I’ll take walks at two or four in the morning, because there’s nobody out on the streets and it’s easy for me to go unnoticed.”

Macaulay Culkin now spends about half of his time in Paris, where if people notice or recognize him, they are less likely to approach. Culkin says that he really has no desire to return to the industry, and he just likes to go where the wind takes him.

“I’m a man in his mid-30s who’s essentially retired.”

Culkin says he likes to spend his time writing, painting, and “whatevering.”

But Radar Online is suggesting that much of Macaulay Culkin’s laying low is due to his use of methadone and his attempts at rehab. An insider allegedly shared with Radar Online that Macaulay Culkin, supposedly a one-time heroin user, is now “drowning his sorrows” in alcohol and methadone. It is to be noted that Culkin’s reps have denied claims of heroin use in the past, but methadone is the drug of choice to cease heroin and opiate use.

A source close to the actor says Culkin has sought treatment at the Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York City.

“As far as I’m aware, he has yet to enroll in a full-time program meant for long-term sobriety. Unfortunately, using methadone randomly and not in a controlled environment has its own inherent risks, in that it can also be addictive if abused.”

Another source commented that Culkin is often not recognized for being a once famous actor, but instead seen as just one more homeless person on the streets of New York.

Starpulse says that Macaulay Culkin has come out of hiding essentially to say that he is pretty happy in hiding and that being off the radar has its perks. He tells a story of being in a cafe in Paris and asking the waitress for the Wi-Fi password. He said the waitress gave him a card with the password, and it had a photo of Culkin from his Home Alone days. The password was Macaulay Culkin.

“When she came back, I said, ‘I like your WiFi code.’ She goes, ‘Thank you,’ and I say, ‘C’est moi.’ She turned white and brought over the owner of the place, who said, ‘I knew you’d come here someday.'”

Macaulay Culkin says he still will pick and choose a project on a whim. Right now, this includes a stint on The Jim Gaffigan Show on TV Land and independent projects like Adam Green’s Aladdin.

Culkin has also not given up on his music, and he has started a band called the Pizza Underground, where he can record songs about pizza and also provide a tribute to the band The Velvet Underground.

Are you surprised that Macaulay Culkin has given up on acting?
