‘Battleborn’ Open Beta Challenge Will Reward Everyone With Free Character Skins After Reaching Community Goal

Now that the Battleborn open beta is live on Xbox One and PC as well as PlayStation 4, Gearbox Software announced a community goal for players around the world. If players collectively reach certain milestones during the remaining open beta period, developers will release a SHiFT code that players can redeem for three skins for select Battleborn heroes.

The open beta challenge tasks players with meeting three specific goals before it ends on April 18 according to the official website. Players will need to work together to collectively finish one million competitive multiplayer matches to unlock a golden skin for Benedict. Completing one million story missions will unlock a golden ISIC skin, and picking up 15 billion shards will reward players with a golden Shayne and Aurox Skin.

All public multiplayer matches will contribute toward the goal to unlock Benedict’s golden skin while all Battleborn story mode missions regardless of session size will add to the community’s progress. Of course, players across both modes will constantly be picking up shards during the challenge with thousands being earned each match or mission per player. Shards picked up in both modes, in any difficulty, and with any hero count toward reaching that 15 billion shards mark. For those new to Battleborn, shards are a currency in Battleborn used to build structures during a match or mission in predetermined areas. They are also used to unlock equipped gear in the loadout selected before a game begins.

If Battleborn players across all three platforms meet the community goal, Gearbox Software will reveal a universal SHiFT code on May 3 for three golden skins. Codes will show up on the official Battleborn accounts on Twitter and on Facebook. These skins are for use on Benedict, ISIC, and Shayne and Aurox with each goal being for each hero. One code will unlock all skins earned by the community. These golden skins are akin to those players can receive for pre-ordering the game before its release. Players that pre-order Battleborn will receive golden skins for Marquis, Montana, Rath, Renya, and Thorn.

“On May 3, 2016, the Benedict, ISIC, and Shayne & Aurox golden skins will be distributed via a single SHiFT code on the Battleborn Twitter and Facebook channels. One golden hero skin will be awarded for each challenge successfully completed. Redeem the SHiFT code by booting up the retail version of Battleborn, going to the “Extras” section, selecting “SHiFT,” signing up or logging in to your SHiFT account, then entering the SHiFT code.”

Gearbox Software’s SHiFT program is an account and code system used for many free items as well as contest entries. Players can sign up on the SHiFT account website or via the Battleborn client. Players can direct to the Extras tab of the game where they can link their exiting SHiFT account or create one. This is where players can enter codes when available. As the Inquisitr reported, this is also the system used to enter the Battleborn Bad*ss Weekend Sweepstakes, the contest to win a Las Vegas trip worth nearly $20,000 just for playing during the open beta. Players of the Borderlands series will likely already have a SHiFT account due to the numerous codes Gearbox Software gave out across the series’ titles for Golden Keys, skins, and more.

Battleborn launches on May 3 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The first-person shooter features five-versus-five multiplayer across three competitive modes at launch in addition to a repeatable story mode. The story campaign can be played solo or with up to five team members in private or public matches. Advanced difficulty and an optional hardcore mode are also available for those taking on the responsibility of saving the last star as stated on the 2k Blog. Both competitive and cooperative aspects of the game let players work on leveling each of 25 heroes in addition to their account Command Rank. Additional heroes, new maps, new modes, and much more are expected post launch in free updates, and five story mode missions are part of the game’s $20 downloadable content season pass.
