‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Adding Lando In Next DLC, More Free Content

DICE and Electronic Arts dropped details Wednesday on what Star Wars: Battlefront players on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC should expect in the coming months. The developer and publisher have some new free content on the way plus the promised Bespin DLC featuring the smooth talking gambler and Administrator of Cloud City, Lando Calrissian.

The Bespin DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront will be released this June and will be completely based around Cloud City. The expansion will include four new maps that will the game’s most popular game modes, according to the developer. Areas confirmed so far include the outside with Fighter Squadron and Walker Assault, plus the infamous carbonite chamber where Han Solo was turned into a refrigerator magnet.

Lando Calrissian is also confirmed as one of the two new heroes for Star Wars: Battlefront. He’s known more for being a smooth talking con man than a fighter, so it will be interesting to see what kind of abilities DICE rolls for him. He will be paired up with the bounty hunter, Dengar.

Who is Dengar, you ask? He was one of the bounty hunters Darth Vader hired to hunt down the Millenium Falcon in Empire Strikes Back. He was in the group on the memorable bridge scene with Boba Fett, IG-88, Bosk, and 4-LOM. While that and a brief appearance in Return of the Jedi were the only times he showed up in the films, he was active in the expanded Star Wars universe. The character turned up in Episodes 20 and 21 of Star Wars: Clone Wars‘ fourth season plus three issues of Marvel’s Star Wars comic book series and two issues of the Darth Vader series.

DICE also took the time to confirm there will be a total of eight heroes added to Star Wars: Battlefront via expansions. Greedo and Niem Nunb were added in the Outer Rim DLC released at the end of March. That leaves four more characters to come in the game’s final two expansions, Death Star and unnamed four DLCs.

While players wait for the release of the Bespin expansion, DICE still has new content and events planned for Star Wars: Battlefront. Producer Craig McLeod spelled out the following:

  • New In-Game Events– more double score weekends, community missions, and Special Login Events are coming for players to earn more experience, credits, and items.
  • New Hutt Contracts– Unlock powerful Star Cards like the Berserker Trait, Bacta Bomb, and Ion Neutralizer.
  • More New Content– We also have a couple of surprises in store that we know our fans have been looking for, especially those who have been clamoring for ways to have more options to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront offline. More to come soon.
  • Specific for May the 4th – In celebration of Star Wars Day we have cool activities planned that we’ll announce soon.

The addition of new free content is great news for those not ready or interested in purchasing the Battlefront DLC. The March update provided the last free content update to the Star Wars multiplayer shooter and was potentially the last.

The official word from DICE prior to today was, “In addition to the free content we will be delivering through March, we will continue to listen to our community throughout the year and provide updates designed to make Star Wars: Battlefront even more fun for everyone.”

Clearly, DICE listened to the community and saw that smaller free content updates combined with events help form a bridge to keep players engaged in between expansion releases.
