Christina Aguilera Leaving ‘The Voice’ To Appear On ‘American Idol’ Reboot?

Christina Aguilera will be leaving The Voice after season 10 to make way for new coaches Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. However, it likely isn’t because she was fired, as many reports have claimed.

Although Christina Aguilera isn’t expected to appear at all on season 11, she wasn’t expected to to begin with. After all, she and Gwen Stefani had been alternating seasons as coach since Season 7, when Christina Aguilera left the show to tend to her second pregnancy. So, if anything, it was Stefani who was expected to star as a coach on The Voice Season 11.

As for what Christina Aguilera will be doing once the currently airing season wraps up, a source recently claimed the singer would be signing on to appear on the upcoming American Idol reboot.

On April 12, OK! Magazine shared a report, claiming Christina Aguilera was already planning her television return, despite being contractually obligated to continue her coaching role on The Voice for the next several weeks. According to the magazine’s insider, Christina Aguilera has expressed interest in joining the FOX series after rumors claimed the show would return, despite its recent “final season.”

“It’s not that unlikely we could see another American Idol season, because the ratings this year are better than they’ve been in years,” the insider said. “Rumors around Fox studios is that there’s a huge surge of support to give the show another run. And with someone like [Christina Aguilera] on board, they would seriously consider a four-person panel this time.”

The source went on to reveal that FOX was holding meetings about the show’s potential future, leading many to believe that the 15th season of American Idol, which recently concluded, may not be the series’ last, and this isn’t the first time fans are hearing of a possible reboot. Since Ryan Seacrest teased fans during the finale episode, hinting that he would see them again soon, rumors have been swirling about a show return. That said, fans won’t be getting a confirmation on any such thing anytime soon, according to the source.

“With a resurgence of ‘think tank’ meetings going on at Fox, the decision to end the show could be reversed at the company’s upfront presentation in May,” the source said.

Although it would be interesting to see American Idol return for a new season with Christina Aguilera on board, Gossip Cop confirmed on April 12 that she was not involved in any reboot and is simply taking a break from the upcoming season of The Voice, “just as she does every other cycle.” The report also shot down rumors that Christina Aguilera “may have been booted” from The Voice.

In addition to her current gig on The Voice, Christina Aguilera is also working on another musically-themed series for Spike TV, which is expected to air later this year. On March 15, The Hollywood Reporter shared news of the new show, Tracks, revealing the series would feature two teams attempting to guess the names of songs by listening to its individual tracks.

“Having finely tuned my ear for music over the years, I thought it would be fun to test other folks and see if they can identify a track — with a twist — since contestants will have to focus on a single component of a song,” Christina Aguilera said in a statement. “I’m excited to have Tracks debuting on Spike TV, and proud to have this as the first project springing from our first-look deal with Lionsgate.”
