A University of Albany-SUNY psychologist believes he may have found a cure for morning sickness in pregnant women: oral sex. New York psychology department member Dr.Gordon Gallup believes that morning sickness is caused by the introduction of foreign introduction of semen in a woman’s body during conception. Gallup also claims that women can develop a tolerance to the semen by simply “devouring” more of it, the Daily Mail notes. Pregnant women will have to decide for themselves if the treatment for morning sickness is worth the cure.

The university psychologist is not the first doctor or pregnancy expert to have attempted to explain the cause of morning sickness or to find a treatment to prevent women from struggling with daily nausea while carrying a baby. In the past, morning sickness has been linked to hormonal contraception and the wild hormones fluctuations which occur inside a pregnant woman’s body. Dr. Gallup is best known for the “Mirror Test” he created in 1970 to measure self-awareness levels in animals.

“I want to make it clear that we are not advocating that people abstain from using condoms. Clearly an unwanted pregnancy or sexually-transmitted disease would more than offset any advantageous psychological effects of semen,” Dr. Gallup stated in a clinical article entitled Does Semen Have Antidepressant Properties?

In 2000, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) also issued a report claiming there is a connection between morning sickness and oral sex. The NCBI findings maintain that occurrences of pre-eclampsia, a rise in blood pressure in pregnant women, diminished when test subjects performed oral sex and swallowed the semen, according to the Daily Mail. Dr. Gallup also believes that semen holds anti-depressive qualities. Apparently, not just any sperm will do when attempting to thwart morning sickness; it is recommended that the sperm be from the person who got the woman pregnant, CBS DC News notes.
