Smartphone-Savvy Boy, 4, Saves Mom’s Life After She Runs Fever And Passes Out

Parents may worry that their kids spend too much time with technology these days, but one Texas mom is grateful her son knew his way around her iPhone.

The young boy, 4, used it like a real expert and saved her life.

On Sunday, Misty Vaughn thought she was sick with the flu, but she doesn’t remember too much about that day. Her fever kept rising, and the last thing she recalls is looking at the thermometer, WFAA reported.

“It was reading 105 on my thermometer, and that’s the last thing I remember,” before she passed out, said the mom of two boys.

“My body and brain were literally cooking, and much longer would have been devastating consequences.”

Camden found her unconscious shortly after, and he knew just what to do. He’d been on his mom’s iPhone so much — playing games and the like — he not only knew her passcode by heart but how to find her saved contacts.

The boy explained the very simple procedure to reporters later, saying, “And tap the phone button, and the star, and hit the picture.”

Misty told ABC News that her frequent contacts include pictures.

The little boy knew who he was looking for: his dad, Dr. Jeremy Vaughn. He recalled the terrifying, frantic call he got from his son that night.

“He said, ‘Daddy I need you to come home! Mommy can’t get in the bath because she can’t wake up.’ And I said: ‘I’m on my way!'”

Dr. Vaughn dropped everything and raced home. He found his wife unconscious and unresponsive and called 911. She was rushed to the hospital and, thanks to Camden, will be just fine.

According to her doctor, Dr. Ousama Moammar of Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas, the young boy’s quick call came at a critical time.

“It saved her life… as simple as that. Acting early and fast is really of the essence.”

Doctors determined that she passed out because she had a seizure.

“My doctors are assuming I had a seizure because when I was found, I was foaming at the mouth and non-responsive,” Misty said, “and when I got to the ER, I had two more seizures….”

So far, they haven’t identified the underlying illness that could’ve led to her medical emergency. For days, the young mom wasn’t feeling well, but not so poorly that she’d expect a trip to the ER.

“I have never had a seizure before. I’m an active mom. I run a farm. I work part-time. I take care of my two boys.”

Since the day he saved her life, Camden has been in the hospital with his mom and is ready to go home; Vaughn called her son “all boy” and “very active.”

As she recovers (she expects to head back home soon) she can only look in wonder at her child, whose heroic actions have increased her trust in the boy’s responsibility.

“If my brain had continued at that temperature, I could not be the same here… the same or not be here at all for them,” she reflected.

Not only is she amazed that the boy saved her life, the experience has made her appreciate what’s important in life.

“My boys are my world and my gratitude is overwhelming. I just keep staring at them amazed at how different things could have really been for me. It’s reminded me to enjoy the day-to-day tasks of motherhood again and not get bogged down with all the details in my life that in the end won’t really matter anyway.”
