When Will The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 Finale Air? ABC Confirms Finale Date

ABC has now confirmed the Season 12 finale date for Grey’s Anatomy. When will the show come to an end for this year and who will go?

Variety reports that the show will air its season finale on May 19. This is a week after CW airs its finale of The Vampire Diaries and a week before the Supernatural and Arrow finale. Grey’s Anatomy will be followed by The Catch’s two-hour season finale, since Scandal will finish the week before.

There is very little about how the season will end and whether any actors are bowing out. Dr. Ben Warren, played by Jason George, will face some tough decisions for his future in upcoming episodes, especially when the hospital is on lockdown and a pregnant patient needs an emergency c-section. Tensions are already high between him and Miranda Bailey, who is not just his wife but also his boss.

According to Design & Trend, Ben will decide to operate on a patient without going through the proper procedures and in a hallway. His argument is that he would lose both his patients. However, Bailey and Alex Karev both disagree with his actions, saying that it would have been safer to wait. Despite the c-section, the baby ends up needing critical care, and Karev sarcastically remarks that both Ben’s patients may still die. Bailey will have to decide whether to take further action against his husband for the risk he took. ABC shared a sneak peek of Episode 18, where this plays out.

Grey’s Anatomy will continue this week with a double episode. Season 12 will have 24 episodes, so there will be no more breaks until the Season 12 finale airs, something many fans will be happy to read.

There are questions over whether anyone is leaving this year. One rumor is that Jerrika Hinton, who plays Stephanie Edwards, will bow out of the show. She is set to appear in Shonda Rhimes’ Toast, and it may be difficult to play a role in both TV shows. Her departure has not yet been confirmed or denied by anyone who would know.

Another rumor is that Jessica Capshaw may be leaving Dr. Arizona Robbins behind. Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo tweeted recently, saying that Capshaw would break fans’ hearts in Episode 22, suggesting that she is saying goodbye to the show.

Arizona will have more problems with Callie in Episode 18 of Grey’s Anatomy. Callie will reportedly make a decision about her daughter Sophia, which is something Arizona will not necessarily agree with. However, HealthAim does state that Arizona will just have to accept the decision, suggesting that it may be the thing that makes her walk away after all this time.

Other fans have speculated that Capshaw’s character will be killed off. Meanwhile, others believe that she is just getting a new love interest and finally moving on from Callie. Rhimes had previously said that both Callie and Arizona on Grey’s Anatomy would get new love interests, and Arizona has not had one introduced just yet. Fans just want Pompeo to share more rather than including that little tweet.

Grey’s Anatomy fans will be happy to know that the show has been picked up for a 13th season. While there are still questions over some characters staying on, many have assumed that Meredith Grey, Karev, and Bailey are not going anywhere for the time being.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursday, April 14 with a back-to-back two-hour special. The show will then continue until May 19 when it airs its Season 12 finale.
