Kurt Cobain: Former Private Investigator Says Courtney Love Conspired In The Death Of Nirvana Frontman

April 5 marked the 22nd death anniversary of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, and many paid tribute to the late musician by posting pictures and messages on social media.

In 1994, Kurt Cobain was found shot to death in his Seattle home in what was officially reported as a suicide. Cobain had just been released from rehab and was missing for a few days before his body was found. According to the medical examiner, the frontman died on April 5, three days prior to his body being discovered. A suicide note was also found at the scene.

Years after Kurt Cobain’s death, several conspiracy theories emerged, alleging that Cobain’s death was not a suicide and instead a homicide. One of those suspected to be behind the murder plot, according to conspiracy theorists, was Cobain’s own wife, Courtney Love.

According to CBS News, Cobain’s case was reviewed on his 20th death anniversary in 2014, and again, the results of the review showed that the Nirvana frontman indeed took his own life. That, however, did not stop conspiracy theorists from forming their own conclusions about the decades-old case.

Now, former private investigator Tom Grant, who was hired by Courtney Love, is sharing his opinion on the matter and says that Love conspired in the death of her late husband.

In his interview with the New York Daily News, Grant calls Courtney Love a “sociopath” and “psychopath” and even alleges that she had something to do with Kurt’s death.

Courtney asked for help from the former private investigator in 1994, when she couldn’t find her husband after he left rehab, shortly before his death.

According to Grant, his assumption stems from a possible motive, compelling evidence, and things that he heard while investigating the case.

“I don’t believe that Courtney Love should be arrested and charged with murder. I’m just giving my opinion. I’ve been places, I’ve been in situations, I’ve heard things, I’ve experienced things that nobody else has in this case.”

The majority of Tom Grant’s evidence was gathered when he went to Seattle searching for Kurt Cobain with the aid of Dylan Carlson, who was Cobain’s best friend. It was an electrician who eventually found Kurt in his home with a gunshot wound. It was then that Grant decided to find answers.

Since then, Tom Grant made it his mission to compile everything he has on the case, and he even runs a website dedicated to the death of Kurt Cobain called Cobain Case. There, he shares the sequence of events leading to Kurt’s death, some information that was not previously revealed to the public, and some questions that he wants to be answered.

He, however, is not singling out Courtney Love in the death of Kurt. As he says on his website, he only has a conspiracy theory and not a murder theory.

“The term ‘conspiracy’ is merely a legal term describing the planning or plotting of a crime by two or more persons. If I had reached the conclusion that only one person was involved in planning and carrying out the murder of Kurt Cobain, we would be discussing a ‘Murder Theory,’ not a ‘Conspiracy Theory.'”

He further talks about the case in the New York Daily News interview.

“The case was not investigated properly. How can they possibly know that he committed suicide when they didn’t even have the toxicology report back?”

In 2015, a documentary titled Soaked in Bleach was released, and it dealt with the events that led to the death of Cobain through the eyes of Grant. The documentary also opens the topic of Kurt’s death not being a suicide. The movie sparked renewed interest in the case, and Norm Stamper, who was the Chief of the Seattle Police Department in 1994, agrees that Cobain’s case should be reopened.

Courtney Love also reacted to the film in the form of a cease-and-desist order.

In the letter, it said, “The Film falsely presents a widely and repeatedly debunked conspiracy theory that accuses Ms. Cobain of orchestrating the death of her husband Kurt Cobain.”

Tom Grant says that he knows some people think he is a “nutcase” for stating his opinion, but he says, “I had to do what I believed in.”

“I always have to believe that we’ll reach our goal (of getting the case re-opened). I said from the very beginning this was going to be a long process because of what we were up against. I didn’t think it was going to take this long.”
