Stacy Fawcett Remembered: Loving Tributes Pour In For Dallas Television Personality Murdered By Her Own Son

Tributes are pouring in for Stacy Fawcett, the popular Dallas television personality who was murdered this weekend by her own son in a brutal and puzzling double murder.

Police confirmed on Friday that Fawcett was stabbed to death by her son, McCann Utu Jr., in an attack that also killed McCann’s brother and Fawcett’s younger son, Josiah Utu. McCann then killed himself.

Fawcett was a popular food reporter who had thousands of fans, many of whom took to the internet to share their memories and offer condolences. Many took to a GoFundMe page set up to support the family, remembering Stacy as a kind-hearted friend.

“Stacy Fawcett reached out to me with encouragement and love because she believed in helping folks,” wrote Elizabeth Dry, who added, “she was an angel.”

There was also a Facebook page created to remember Stacy Fawcett, which became filled with memories from friends and fans alike.

Amanda Gayle Hayes shared.

“You truly made the world a better, more happy place Stacy Fawcett… Thank you for every ‘just because I love you’ message you ever left me when I was blue. All of us who knew you were so incredibly fortunate to have you in our lives. You were the best listener, the greatest cheerleader, an incredible inspiration, a fountain of positivity, a loving mother, a devoted friend and a truly special soul! I miss so very much and I will treasure every laugh, every moment, every late night conversation we had forever.”

Many of the tributes have come from Fawcett’s home station, WFAA Channel 8 News in Dallas, which compiled a number of pictures from her work and put together a video tribute that was broadcast on the evening news.

Stacy Fawcett was not the only one remembered after the brutal murder-suicide this weekend. Students at Plano West High School showed up for a vigil remembering not only Josiah, but also his brother McCann.

Many friends and family members say McCann had not been in his right mind in the past few years, tracing the personality change back to a series of concussions he suffered in high school; the first while playing on the school’s basketball team and the second in an altercation on campus.

Friends said the McCann they knew could have never been capable of such a horrifying act.

McCann’s longtime friend, Waseem Limbada, said he believes the concussions set the teen on a destructive course. McCann was unable to play sports anymore, as he could not pass the concussion protocol, Limbada noted.

“When he kept failing it, he had a lot of free time on his hands, he wasn’t showing up to practice,” Limbada said in an interview with News 8. “It just put him with the wrong crowd, started doing drugs, started being with the wrong people.”

“I felt like he was depressed emotionally.”

Limbada said McCann seemed like an entirely different person after the concussions.

“The past year when he had his concussion is when I started seeing drastic changes, where he started to isolate himself,” Limbada said. “But he just kept it all inside, but he just let it out all at once.”

“McCann is a good dude. Josiah, rest in peace. Miss Fawcett, rest in peace. They’ll be remembered forever. But just know, McCann, he is a good guy, and I feel like at that moment, he was just not himself.”

McCann’s father, McCann Utu Jr., also issued a statement saying, “God will use my pain to help and save others that are going through mental illness and concussion.”

It is more than just well-wishes pouring in for Stacy Fawcett and her family. In just two days, fans and supporters have raised nearly $30,000 on the GoFundMe page to support the family and help pay for funeral expenses.
