Duchess Kate, Prince William Arrive In India: Find Out What They Did On Day One

Duchess Kate and Prince William have arrived in Mumbai, India, for their scheduled royal visit. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flew into Mumbai on April 10. According to BBC News, the couple visited the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, where they met survivors of the 2008 Mumbai attacks and paid their respects to the fallen.

Next, Duchess Kate and her hubby played a round of cricket with one of the world’s best cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar, according to Us Weekly.

Duchess Kate wore a long, printed dress by Anita Dongre paired with super cute espadrille wedges, but that didn’t keep her from participating in sporting events. Kate is very athletic and she wasn’t about to let her outfit get in the way of a bit of competition.

Dongre is a very popular designer who works out of Mumbai. Kate wanted to wear a local designer while she was traveling and Dongre’s dress was pretty much the perfect fit. Check it out in the photo below.

“[Kate] really wanted to wear a local designer at the earliest possible opportunity as a tribute to Mumbai’s wonderful design talent. This dress is a perfect way to do that,” shared a source.

Duchess Kate and Duke William will be in India and Bhutan for the next six days. This marks the longest time that the couple has been away from their two children, Prince George, 2, and Princess Charlotte, 11 months. According to People, the Duchess talked about missing her children at a party at the grand Taj Mahal Palace Hotel hours after the cricket match.

“We talked about Indian movies and how they’re getting popular everywhere. [Duchess Kate] said she loves being here and the people are very welcoming this time, but she was worried she may miss her children,” said actress Madhuri Dixit.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will keep in touch with their little ones via Skype and will check in regularly with their nanny, Maria.

Meanwhile, Duchess Kate looked stunning in a royal blue gown designed by one of her favorite designers, Jenny Packham, at Sunday night’s red carpet event.

Everyone seemed to love meeting the royal couple — especially the Duchess.

“Is it ok to say she’s extremely beautiful and elegant? Well, she is. If they spend more time here I think they’ll love it. I could definitely show them a good time! I’ll take them out,” said Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

The party attended by Duchess Kate and Duke William was held to raise money for several local children’s charities. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spend a good amount of their time with children and supporting children’s charities. Chief executive of the British Asian Trust Richard Hawkes spoke a bit about the event and how important it was for William and Kate to have been there.

“It’s absolutely fantastic for us. It’s going to raise a lot of money for the [organizations] we support. There’s been an awful lot of publicity for the charities and the Duke and Duchess met all the charities earlier today. Every single person has been really looking forward to seeing them. The royal family is thought of really highly here,” said Hawkes.

Duchess Kate and Duke William will be making several more stops over the next five days. Their schedules are said to be jam-packed for the rest of the week.
