New Japan Pro Wrestling: Cody Hall ‘OK’ After Huge Injury Scare

When the WWE says “Don’t Try This At Home,” they aren’t kidding when it’s advertised on a weekly basis. Injuries can happen in pro wrestling — this is why professionals should only do it, because of the training they’ve received over the multitude of years training. Last night at a New Japan Pro Wrestling show, an injury happened that had the pro wrestling universe waiting. Cody Hall, Scott Hall’s son, took a very scary bump to the head after an opponent used a swanton bomb off the balcony.

What can’t be seen in the video was when Cody Hall prepared to catch the flying opponent when his head immediately gets driven into the concrete, which had Hall motionless for a number of minutes on the ground. It was a scary moment for not just New Japan Pro Wrestling fans, but Cody Hall’s family, friends and comrades out there with him.

Just to put Cody Hall’s situation into perspective, here are a few tweets concerning his status.

There’s nothing scarier in pro wrestling than a move going wrong. It’s a dangerous business that isn’t made for everyone. For Cody Hall, he’s made a name for himself away from his father with New Japan Pro Wrestling. His wrestling ability has only improved, and with his size, the sky’s the limit for the Bad Guy’s little boy. After Hall’s fall, at least some were wondering if he could wrestle again.

That seems a bit premature, but Hall took one of the nastiest bumps in recent memory. In the WWE, Shane McMahon dropped 20 feet from the top of the cell onto an announce table, but there was a pad, as well as a crash pad underneath him. Cody Hall landed on concrete, from what it looks like. Thankfully, his friend, Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks, sent out a tweet with an update on Cody Hall’s condition.

After seeing the bump multiple times, not having a fractured skull, or even a concussion, is close to a miracle. He crashed down on his head first with force from a 200-plus pound human being. There was even a possibility of brain damage with that fall as well. Right now, it isn’t appropriate to assume anything happened, just as long as a doctor doesn’t confirm any theories.

Cody Hall hasn’t responded to anybody yet on social media, and most likely won’t for a good amount of time. When pro wrestlers go through this, it puts a lot into perspective. At any time, an injury can occur and the arena goes silent, just waiting for a “thumbs up,” or any type of reaction. Wrestling has changed over the years.

Some say it’s gotten more dangerous with the types of moves being done. Other think it’s safer with the awareness and prevention wrestling has today.

For Cody Hall’s sake, it was a well-planned spot gone wrong. There were multiple people for Matt Jackson’s landing from the balcony. The balcony wasn’t even elevated more than seven feet from the ground.
