There are many things that the average collector would spend big money on to just set aside and collect dust inside their homes. Rare comic books, mint-condition action figures, autographed pictures, and other memorabilia are just some of the most common collector’s items that are bought at high prices. Now, any Apple or iPhone fanatic can purchase a mint-condition, factory-sealed version of the first-generation iPhone for a whopping $10,000 on eBay.

According to the Huffington Post, there are two first-generation 8GB iPhones on eBay with the asking price of 10 grand. The first seller, samsonbible, has 100% feedback and is a top-rated seller on eBay. The second seller, Phsledge, is also a top-rated seller as well. They both seem to be legitimate and serious about selling their “pieces of history” for $10,000.

It has only been five years since Steve Jobs released the first generation smartphone to the market. On June 29, 2007, the iPhone had a retail price of $599. This $10,000 auction is a 1,669 percent markup from the original asking price of the smartphone; can it really be worth this amount of money?

TechCrunch‘s Jordan Cook posts about the auction, “I would usually say that most electronics shouldn’t be seen as collectors items, as they only lose value over time and aren’t pivotal enough during their lifespan to warrant a resurgence in value. Yet, the original iPhone is a different story.”

Neither iPhone has yet to have a single bid.

I don’t think that the two iPhones are worth this much money, but I’m not a huge Apple fan.

Time will tell.
