‘Final Fantasy XV’: Hajime Tabata Talks DLC, PC Version, Frame Rate, & More

More news has been released since the “Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV” event took place on March 30, and it gives us more insight on the game’s future.

We already know that Final Fantasy XV is scheduled to be released on September 30 of this year, and that there will be multiple editions of the game that are available for preorder. There is also the inclusion of Kingsglaive, the full length CGI movie, and Brotherhood, an anime series with an exclusive sixth episode available to those who pre-order the Ultimate Edition of the game. As if this wasn’t enough excitement, Dualshockers has managed to translate and report on further information in regards to the plans for Final Fantasy XV. There’s even a look at the game’s first chapter, provided by Gameinformer.

Hajime Tabata, a video game director for Square Enix, recently took to detailing information about Final Fantasy XV to Jeuxvideo, a French gaming website. According to the translation by Dualshockers, the game is currently having its frame rate optimized by the development team’s engineers. It was last reported that Final Fantasy XV would run at 30 frames per second, though it was not steady.

Tabata reports that progress has been made since then, and the team has finalized what we will be able to view on the screen. With this completed, developers can focus on using the remaining time to make sure that the frame rate will be better. Hajime gave a rough estimate that 300 people are working on Final Fantasy XV worldwide.

Tabata also stated that it is hard to give an accurate percentage as to how much of the game’s development is complete. While this may be true, the game is currently in a localization phase. This gives Square Enix a confident standing with Final Fantasy XV‘s release date. Alongside the game’s release is the question of downloadable content. According to Dualshockers, Tabata has expressed that DLC news will be made in the summertime, and that the development team is looking to come out with content that will stand out from the ordinary. No specifics have been made, but Square Enix has high hopes that any DLC will increase the enjoyment that players will get out of Final Fantasy XV.

In addition to this information, Hajime Tabata has stated that he is interested in working on a PC version of Final Fantasy XV after the console version is complete. This would allow a push to the game that the console versions are not capable of due to their limitations. The release of a PC version would be far off, however, mainly due to the fact that Square Enix would essentially have to start from the ground up; with the technical capabilities of a PC, Final Fantasy XV would be more than just a port of its console version. Still, this news gives hope to old and new Final Fantasy players alike that they could see this highly anticipated game on PC.

As far as in-game progression and development, Tabata has also mentioned that the development team of Final Fantasy XV is working hard on things such as the amount of experience gained for enemy encounters, the amount of progress that players will need to be able to increase level, the speed at which characters will be able to attack, and the balance of power that will set weapons apart from each other. In light of this, it is also noted that the cinematic cutscenes for Final Fantasy XV will be less than in previous Final Fantasy games. Instead, Square Enix is hoping that the craving for more cinematics will be satisfied by the Kingsglaive movie.

For those wondering, Tabata has also mentioned that the Regalia, the vehicle seen many times during the trailers and videos of Final Fantasy XV, can be customized to fly. Once done, players need only press a button to get off the ground. Could we see greater exploration with this tidbit of information given? One can only hope, especially with the thought of being able to customize transportation. No further word has been given on this, but it appears to be a promising inclusion with the large expanse of land that players will be able to cover throughout Final Fantasy XV.
