Kesha Supporters Are Wrong To Criticize Jennifer Lopez For Working With Dr. Luke

Jennifer Lopez performed a new song called “Aint Your Mama” on American Idol Thursday evening. As E! News describes, the song has feminist undertones. However, once it was revealed that the song was co-produced by Dr. Luke, there was a social media backlash.

As everybody knows, Kesha has famously accused Dr. Luke of sexually assaulting her and has failed to get out of her recording contract. Anybody who calls Kesha a liar is definitely insensitive. However, all the people who have joined the Dr. Luke lynch mob are also insensitive, especially since it hasn’t been proven that he raped her.

In February, TMZ reported that Kesha previously testified — under oath — that she was not sexually assaulted or drugged by Dr. Luke.

“TMZ has obtained portions of a Kesha deposition taken in 2011. Kesha and Luke had both been sued by a manager, and she was asked under oath about comments her mom allegedly made against Luke. The video, which we obtained by a Luke source who heavily edited snippets of the deposition, shows a very relaxed Kesha denying the allegations she’s now making against Luke.”

It’s important to note that TMZ then reported that Kesha said Dr. Luke forced her to lie during the 2011 deposition.

“Kesha was threatened by Dr. Luke when she lied under oath and swore he never had sex with her, much less raped her… so claims her lawyer. Mark Geragos tells TMZ, portions of Kesha’s 2011 deposition, which we posted Tuesday, are not what they seem. Kesha seems to freely say Luke never laid a hand on her and didn’t roofie her.”

Kesha definitely could have been lying under oath, but the statements she made don’t help her case. Most importantly, they don’t help convince rational people that Dr. Luke is absolutely guilty, even though some women he worked with aren’t exactly complimentary about their experience.

“He’s a talented dude but he’s just lied a lot. I’ve run into a couple really bad situations. Musically, it’s been really hard for me because he will just lie to people. It’s like ‘What?’ It makes the artist look bad. He’s difficult to work with, kind of demeaning, it’s kind of unfortunate,” Kelly Clarkson claimed regarding Dr. Luke, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Clarkson pretty much said that she was blackmailed by her label into working with Dr. Luke. However, she never said that Dr. Luke raped her. The courts have so far sided with Dr. Luke. USA Today reported that on Wednesday, a judge threw out Kesha’s abuse claims.

“After denying Kesha a preliminary injunction in February, a New York judge has thrown out Kesha’s case against Sony Music, dismissing her claims that her producer Dr. Luke sexually assaulted and emotionally abused her.”

The article adds that the reason the claims were thrown out wasn’t because the judge didn’t believe her, but because the incident happened outside New York and outside the legal time limit. Some people praised the judge, while others say the ruling was wrong.

Rape and sexual assault are horrible things and it’s great that more attention has been brought to these crimes. However, accusing someone of rape or sexual assault without complete proof is also an insult to those who have actually been raped or sexually assaulted. Kesha’s supporters are certainly well-meaning, but the actions of some, including those condemning Jennifer Lopez, are questionable.
