NFL Rumors: John Madden Told Peyton Manning To Avoid Television

NFL rumors are swirling around Peyton Manning. Now that he has decided to walk away from the game as a player, everyone wants to know what the former Tennessee Volunteers star is going to do. Since he has been very smart with his money, Manning is essentially trying to figure out how he wants to fill in the hours of his days. Peyton has reportedly been mulling a broadcasting career with the National Football League. According to NBC Sports, John Madden has advised him against that.

Peyton Manning likes to be well prepared. That mentality has helped him out tremendously as a quarterback in the NFL. Manning was able to beat a lot of defenses because he already knew what they were going to be doing when he got to that line of scrimmage. Long known as a guy that would live in the film rooms, it should come as no surprise to anyone that Peyton is going to be well prepared when trying to figure out what he wants to do with his career next.

Since he is so passionate about the game, and so well spoken, Peyton Manning believes that he can become the next great broadcaster in the NFL. A lot of people have long wanted to know what Manning sees on the field. They’ll get a better understanding of that if he is the one speaking while the games are going on.

If he had to choose, Peyton Manning would reportedly love to work with CBS Sports. There are reports floating around that the company has already made an offer to the former Denver Broncos quarterback. Manning wants to work in the commentating booth, as opposed to being an analyst on Sunday morning. He reportedly wants to work with Jim Nantz, who is currently partnered up with former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms.

Wanting to ensure that he makes the best decision possible, Peyton Manning decided to consult with one of the best broadcasters in the history of the NFL. Manning approached John Madden and asked about the idea of working in the broadcasting booth for CBS Sports. Not only is well known for creating the best football video game of all time, Madden made a name for himself as a broadcaster.

John Madden surprised Peyton Manning with his advice. Rather than urging Manning to follow his desires of being a broadcaster, Madden instructed him to avoid the job for the time being. Madden says that Peyton is better off right now being an executive for an NFL team. Like many people, Madden believes that Manning has what it takes to build a team and lead them to a Super Bowl. Very few people understand the National Football League as well as Peyton does.

If Peyton Manning takes the advice given to him by John Madden, then there are a couple of options in the NFL for him. The Tennessee Titans have long been interested in having Manning as part of their organization. There are even talks that the Titans might be willing to give Peyton an ownership stake to make it happen. Another team that has been linked to Manning is the Cleveland Browns. They have long needed credibility in their front office, and Peyton could command a lot of respect as a general manager or team president.

John Elway successfully made the transition from being a quarterback in the NFL to being the lead executive of a Super Bowl winning team. John Madden said that Peyton Manning would make much better use of his time if he attempted to accomplish the same thing that Elway did.
