Rebel Wilson Denies Rumors She Will Play Lead In Adele Biopic

How to Be Single star Rebel Wilson is keeping busy these days with multiple film projects, including a second Pitch Perfect sequel, but one rumor that turns out to be false is that Rebel has been tapped to play the lead in the upcoming Adele biopic. While Wilson is voicing her take on the gossip surrounding the Adele film, she’s also revealing that she’ll be playing a pretty big villain in another project.

Rebel Wilson Speaks Out About Rumors She Has Been Asked To Play Adele

A short time ago, rumors began circulating that studio executives had chosen Rebel Wilson to star as Adele in a planned biopic, but it seems everyone concerned is denying the gossip and having a good laugh at the rumor. Adele herself laughed, when fans posed the question to her at a recent London concert. While the question gave Adele a chuckle, she didn’t exactly deny the rumor, only saying that fans would have to wait and see.

It wasn’t long before Adele lost her sense of humor, regarding news of the proposed biopic. The singer told her fans that Hollywood execs would “need my f—ing permission,” before moving forward with any biopic based on her life.

Meanwhile, Rebel Wilson denied that she was offered the role, tweeting to her Twitter followers in the hopes that a statement from her would clear up any misconceptions. Still, Wilson did say that she wouldn’t totally dismiss the idea out of hand, adding that her participation in an Adele biopic would depend on the script.

The Little Mermaid Live Concert Casts Wilson As The Evil Ursula

While that Adele project may be an entirely baseless rumor, Rebel is planning to take the stage as a crooner of another sort, as she joins a star-studded cast to perform music from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The musical will be showing for one night only, June 4, at the Hollywood Bowl. Joining Rebel’s Ursula on stage will be Sara Bareilles as Ariel and Glee‘s Darren Criss as Prince Eric.

In addition to the Little Mermaid concert, the Hollywood Bowl will also host activities to entertain the whole family, including fireworks and a costume contest.

Bareilles says she has been a fan of The Little Mermaid since she was a young girl, and shares memories of herself pretending to be Ariel in her family’s swimming pool. She adds that she finds it fantastic that she’ll now be able to play The Little Mermaid lead on a big stage for other young fans.

“I am truly honored and excited beyond words to be a part of a performance of one of my favorite scores and stories of all time,” said The Little Mermaid‘s Bareilles.

Sara Bareilles isn’t alone in her fascination with The Little Mermaid, but, unlike Bareilles, Wilson was always more of an Ursula fan. She proved as much while tossing out the name of the voice actress responsible for playing Ursula in the Disney animation.

“I hope to do the amazing Pat Carroll [Ursula, The Little Mermaid] proud by performing Ursula’s song,” Wilson said. “It’s just such a delicious role that I’ve always wanted to play.”

Additional cast members participating in the live concert of The Little Mermaid will be Tituss Burgess as Sebastian, John Stamos will be playing Chef Louis, and Scandal‘s Norm Lewis will portray King Triton.

Also coming up for Rebel Wilson is the film reboot Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, which co-stars Cara Delevingne and Gwendoline Christie opposite Wilson. The comedy is to be directed by Mandie Fletcher and written by Jennifer Saunders. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is scheduled for a July 22 theatrical release.
