Madoff’s Accountant Charged, Faces 105 Years In Prison

New York, NY (AHN) – Federal prosecutors have charged disgraced international investor Bernard Madoff’s accountant David Friehling with information and securities fraud, and other offenses this week.

If convicted on all counts, Friehling could serve up to 105 years in prison, according to an FBI statement.

Prosecutors say from 1991 through 2008, Friehling falsely certified that he prepared and audited financial statements for Madoff’s company. Prosecutors also say Friehling “failed to maintain the requisite professional independence from his audit client.”

According to the FBI statement, Friehling and his wife had an account with madoff’s company with a balance of more than $500,000.

The FBI charged Friehling, 49, with one count of securities fraud, one count of abetting investment adviser fraud and four counts of filing audit reports with the Securities Exchange Commission. He was arrested in March.
