‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Musical Cast Announced: Sara Bareilles, Rebel Wilson, And John Stamos? Yes!

The Little Mermaid live musical has an official cast! According to Entertainment Weekly, several A-listers have been added to the roster and will perform together at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater this summer. Sara Bareilles, Rebel Wilson, and John Stamos are just three of the celebs that have officially signed on to partake in what is sure to be one of the most epic sing-alongs ever!

“Sara Bareilles will lead the cast as Ariel, with Rebel Wilson playing the evil sea-witch Ursula. Rounding out the rest of the cast, Darren Criss will play Prince Eric, Tituss Burgess will play Sebastian, and John Stamos will play Chef Louis.”

The cast will also include Norm Lewis as King Triton and Joshua Colley as Flounder.

The Little Mermaid Live! will feature the aforementioned celebs, all of whom will take the stage to sing the hits from the popular Disney film backed by a full orchestra. They won’t be acting out scenes from the film or from the Broadway show, however, but will be singing some of your favorite songs (including “Part Of Your World” and “Under The Sea”).

“According to the film’s co-composer Alan Menken, this performance will be the first time his entire score has been performed by a live orchestra since it was first recorded more than 25 years ago. The staging will also include songs Menken wrote for The Little Mermaid Broadway musical, which do not appear in the film.”

Many of the cast members have confirmed their part in the show by posting on Twitter. Check out some of their messages below — they are all clearly excited to be taking part in this super cool one-night event!

According to the Los Angeles Times, the public will be permitted to attend The Little Mermaid live musical if they purchase tickets in advance. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. where attendees can take part in a costume contest if they’d like. At 8:00 p.m. the show will begin and the cast will take the stage to sing along with a 71-piece orchestra led by conductor Michael Kosarin.

Tickets for the live performance, scheduled for June 4, will go on sale this coming Saturday, April 9.

Fans of The Little Mermaid should not get this event confused with the remake of the film. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, actress Chloë Grace Moretz has signed on to portray Ariel in the live-action movie. The film is expected to be released in 2017, but no other information has been made available. Interestingly enough, the film will not be produced by Disney. According to The Verge, Universal will be re-telling Ariel’s tale in live-action form.

Disney is, of course, busy doing other things (as Disney always is). A live-action remake of Beauty And The Beast is in the works starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter) as Belle.

As you can probably imagine, Disney fans are beyond thrilled for all of these awesome things.
