WWE Rumors: Updated And Rumored Card For ‘Payback’ — Lots Of Matches Already Rumored

WrestleMania 32 is in the books, and the first Monday Night RAW of the new WWE season has passed, so it’s time to move on. The next Pay-Per-View on the schedule is Payback, which will take place on May 1, 2016, from the Allstate Arena in Illinois. One match already appears set, as AJ Styles is the No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Title currently held by Roman Reigns, but many more matches are already rumored.

Last night on RAW, Styles won a Fatal 4-Way match that included Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and a returning Cesaro. As recapped by WWE.com, Styles won the match after delivering the Styles Clash to Jericho and pinning him in the center of the ring.

It has not been said when the WWE Title match between Styles and Reigns will happen, but it is expected to main event Payback in a month. There is even already rumored talk of a reunion of The Shield clashing with a WWE version of the Bullet Club, but that remains to be seen.

A couple more matches were teased last night on Monday Night RAW as new feuds and programs are beginning, with others ending at WrestleMania 32.

It looks as if new WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte is finished with Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch for now, but she has an even cockier attitude. Last night, she was officially presented the new WWE Women’s Title, but she made no friends among the other female superstars.

Just about all the female superstars walked out on Charlotte, but a veteran remained and had something to say. Natalya wasn’t backing down from the daughter of Ric Flair, and she put her in the Sharpshooter to prove her point. Expect this title match to be made for Payback.

Zack Ryder has already lost his Intercontinental Title that he won in a magical moment on Sunday night. The Miz captured it on RAW, thanks to interference from his real-life wife, the returning Maryse. There is a rematch set for this week’s SmackDown, but it is possible that this feud continues through the month and with a final match at the PPV.

Kevin Owens took Sami Zayn out of last night’s No. 1 contender’s main event match with a backstage powerbomb through a table. It has been reported that Zayn may have suffered an injury early during RAW, and that’s why he was pulled from the match.

PWInsider is reporting that Zayn had a grueling weekend with two big matches, but WWE didn’t want him out of the spotlight. He was never meant to actually be in the main event, and it was going to be Cesaro the entire time. Kevin Owens taking him out sets up their feud more and a possible match at Payback.

Last night on RAW, two of the debuting NXT stars were Enzo Amore and Big Cass who had some choice words for the Dudley Boyz. It looks like these two teams are heading for a showdown, and Bubba Ray even had a comeback for the new WWE team via Twitter.

Baron Corbin was another big name from NXT that debuted over the weekend and won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He eliminated Kane last to win it. Last night on RAW, he showed up and decimated Dolph Ziggler in a no contest match. He could end up facing one of those two big names at the PPV.

Last week, PWInsider reported that former Bullet Club members Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson would be debuting on the main roster soon. Word is that they will immediately go after the WWE Tag Team Titles currently held by The New Day.

Rumored card for Payback — remember, these are not confirmed and may change.

  • WWE Title: Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles – All but confirmed
  • Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler or Kane
  • Dudley Boyz vs. Amore & Cass
  • WWE Women’s Title: Charlotte (c) vs. Natalya
  • WWE Tag Team Titles: The New Day (c) vs. the Bullet Club (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson)
  • Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn

Look for Kalisto to defend his United States Title and maybe another Women’s match or two.

These matches are only rumored, but it’s likely that the card for Payback will end up with six or seven matches total. AJ Styles has his WWE Title shot against Roman Reigns, but nothing else is confirmed as of yet. There is already less than a month until Payback, so WWE is going to have announce matches very soon so build-up can officially begin.
