Mark Hamill Announces ‘Star Wars’ A Force For Change Charity

Mark Hamill glowers at Star Wars fans in true Luke Skywalker style as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announces Star Wars: A Force for Change charity event.

In a Force for Change YouTube video, Kennedy praises Star Wars fans for not only making Star Wars: The Force Awakens a global success but helping to raise over $10 million in support of the Force for Change charity. When Kennedy turns to Mark to explain more of what’s happening for A Force for Change, Mark continues his severe glare.

“Mark?…Mark?” Kathleen asks interrupting Hamill’s glower.

“Oh, I’m sorry… I have dialogue?” Mark says. “I’m used to just staring intensely.”

The Luke Skywalker glare is reminiscent of the moment in Star Wars: The Force Awakens when Hamill finally appears near the very end of the movie. The stare is brought on when main protagonist, Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, holds out Luke’s lightsaber indicating for him to take it.

Entertainment Weekly reported the Force for Change charity supports four amazing charities, including UNICEF Kid Power, American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and Make-A-Wish. Star Wars fans can donate through CrowdRise.com/ForceForChange.

Hamill goes on to explain that for every dollar donated, A Force for Change will match the donation up to $1 million. Each week, there will be new challenges and new prizes Star Wars fans can win. Just for participating, fans will be entered to win an all-expense-paid trip to Ireland and visit the location of the final scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens where Mark Hamill finally appears.

According to EW, the Ireland prize is a special treat as the dramatic location has restricted access due to its historical significance as well as to protect the native seabirds of the island.

Star Wars fans will be entered into the Ireland prize drawing for every $10 they donate. The prize for the first week’s challenge (April 5 to April 11) is a Blu-ray of Star Wars: The Force Awakens autographed by the cast. The first 20 fans to raise at least $500 will receive this amazing prize.

Star Wars fans are some of the most generous, thoughtful, and sympathetic people I have ever met,” Kennedy said about the charity’s success so far. “I am so proud of the charitable work they have done over the years and hope this month-long donation-matching campaign will go some way to express our sincere thanks for their tireless efforts.”

Back in February, the Inquisitr reported cameras were rolling for Star Wars: Episode 8. It took to the very end of Episode 7 to finally catch of glimpse of Mark Hamill’s character, Luke Skywalker. However, we can expect to see much more of Hamill in Episode 8.

On April 1, Mark teased Star Wars fans with a picture of him and an alleged Star Wars: Episode 8 script. Hamill tweeted if he reached one million fans he will release a “stunning plot point.” Cinema Blend reported Hamill’s teaser of a Episode 8 plot spoiler but also pointed out it was April Fools’ Day and Mark was known for having fun with his fans.

Today, Hamill made his goal of one million followers, and fans are waiting to see if he releases any Episode 8 spoilers. Follow Mark Hamill on Twitter to see if he was just playing an April Fools’ joke or really has a spoiler to spill.

While you’re waiting to see if Mark Hamill is really going to release any Star Wars spoilers, make sure to participate in Star Wars: A Force for Change charity, a great cause with amazing prizes to win.
