Joy-Anna Duggar is the adult Duggar daughter that Jill & Jessa: Counting On will focus on tonight, and once again, TLC is using the courtship carrot to entice viewers to tune in. Joy-Anna will be asked the obligatory question about whether she’s interested in anyone, and a few of her brothers will be asked to weigh in on her love life (or lack thereof). Before 19 Kids and Counting was cancelled, talking about the Duggar girls’ love lives was Jim Bob’s job.
In a sneak peek of tonight’s episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On, Joy-Anna Duggar’s brothers talk about what they’re looking for in a guy for their sister. If they get their way, Joy-Anna could end up being single forever.
“For me, he would almost have to be a perfect guy,” 17-year-old Jedidiah says in the teaser shared by People.
However, last month Joy-Anna Duggar told People that her future husband can be flawed.
“I think we would want someone like our dad [Jim Bob] – someone who is a strong leader and who loves God and loves others more than himself,” Joy-Anna said.
As In Touch Weekly reports, Jim Bob Duggar proved that he’s far from perfect when he failed to protect four of his daughters from being molested by their older brother. Beginning in March of 2002, Josh Duggar began coming to Jim Bob to confess what he was doing. However, despite Josh’s multiple confessions, the Duggar patriarch did not remove his teenage son from the household until Josh turned his attention to his then-5-year-old sister. According to some legal experts, Jim Bob could have spent up to six years in prison for permitting abuse of a minor (Arkansas Code 5-27-221) if the statute of limitations had not run out before the police launched their investigation into the molestation.
The controversy surrounding Jim Bob Duggar’s failure to protect his daughters likely has something to do with why he’s not on Jill & Jessa: Counting On talking about how he screens Joy-Anna’s potential suitors and explaining what courtship is for the 19th time and counting. However, Joy-Anna can count on her brothers to intimidate any interested guys.
According to Jedidiah, Joy-Anna’s future husband will have to go “through a lot of testing.” As Starcasm reports, Jim Bob Duggar says that all of his daughters’ potential suitors have to be screened by him. Jim Bob looks for any red flags, and he turns away any guys who don’t have “a spiritual focus and legitimate calling about ministry work.” It sounds like a few of Joy-Anna Duggar’s brothers have developed a screening process of their own.
“I think if guys come around, they’re going to have to get through a few guys – [I’m] talking about me and [my brother] Joseph,” 19-year-old Josiah says in the Jill & Jessa: Counting On sneak peek.
His 21-year-old brother agrees.
“If a guy shows up to court Joy, there will definitely be a lot of us standing back a little bit, kind of checking him out,” Joseph adds in the clip below.
As you can see, Joy-Anna hasn’t put as much thought into finding herself a husband as her family members have.
The last two episodes of Jill & Jessa: Counting On have been focused on proving that the adult Duggar girls can do the same things that their brothers do, whether it’s installing new lighting in Jessa’s house or buying a car at an auction and pretending to sell it to the friend of a TLC employee. However, tonight’s episode of the show will focus on reformed tomboy Joy-Anna Duggar trying to be less like her brothers.
“I think, being the only girl in the middle of eight brothers, I was definitely a tomboy,” Joy-Anna says.
“I would always hang out with my brothers. But now I’m kind of getting out of that stage and trying to grow out of that.”
So how exactly does Joy-Anna plan on proving to her family that she’s a changed woman? By planning a baby shower and doing lots of baking. In a second Jill & Jessa: Counting On sneak peek shared by Us Weekly, Duggar family party planner Sierra enlists Joy-Anna’s help to bake 13 dozen cookies for a baby shower. According to Jinger, Joy-Anna has become a pro at whipping up the sweet treats because she does a ton of baking for her younger brothers and sisters at home.
