When it comes to what attracts viewers to The Voice every season, the witty banter among the coaches and relationships that the singers have developed with one another are key factors. For example, when the friendship between Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani turned from platonic to passionate PDA, fans cheered for the lovebirds who found happiness after both going through painful splits (Blake divorced Miranda Lambert, while Gwen split from Gavin Rossdale). Although fans were disappointed when it turned out that Gwen would be replaced by Christina Aguilera this season, Stefani showed up in the role of mentor to Team Shelton, bringing on the flirty fun once more.
However, the next season’s coach lineup, with Miley Cyrus in as a coach and both Christina and Gwen out, has left many viewers baffled, pointed out E! News.
Miley had the chance to give viewers a hint of what they can anticipate by taking on the role of key adviser to Blake, Aguilera, Adam Levine, and Pharrell Williams this season. Cyrus showed her ability to relate to the contestants, particularly the younger ones.
In addition, Alicia Keys is joining the coach lineup. That provides The Voice with a balance when it comes to the coaches’ musical specializations, with Alicia taking the R&B angle, Blake lining up the country music contestants, Adam going for rock and pop music, and Miley skilled in a variety of areas.
But are there hidden reasons as to why only Levine and Shelton are holding onto their coach chairs? Rumors have been swirling that Christina was fired from The Voice because Blake was so angry that Aguilera replaced Stefani this season, noted the Hollywood Gossip.
Shelton supposedly had been ready to quit if Christina returned to replace Gwen. Then, when she did, and the news broke that Aguilera was out, the claims began that Blake had orchestrated her departure because he blamed her for preventing Stefani from coaching this season.
But is Aguilera at least partly to blame for her exit from The Voice? An insider told Radar Online that Christina blew up after she learned that Blake and Gwen had been offered a special bonus from the producers of The Voice.
Shelton and Stefani reportedly were tempted by the offer from producers to give them bonuses when they provided PDA for the Voice viewers. And that caused Aguilera to have a major meltdown.
“Blake and Gwen are getting an interesting offer from the show’s execs,” revealed the insider. “Producers want the two of them to give fans a full-on love-fest this season when she is a mentor on Team Blake, and they are going to throw in huge bonuses for exclusives, such as on-air duets, engagements, etc.”
Although Christina might have considered cheering Shelton and Stefani and even encouraging them to canoodle on air, she took a different approach, claims the insider.
“Christina is furious! [She] wants Gwen out of the picture and is already throwing mini-tantrums about it.”
Moreover, the source revealed to Radar that Christina even dissed Stefani, claiming that Gwen had no talent and was a mentor only due to her romance with Shelton.
“She said that Gwen is ‘not vocally talented’ and would not be on the show at all anymore if it was not for her relationship with Blake,” added the insider.
But despite those rumors that Shelton is feuding with Aguilera over Stefani, this insider insists that Shelton is ignoring the other coach’s comments about Stefani.
“Blake really does not care what Christina does or says,” revealed the source. “He is a completely different person now because of Gwen, so much more laid-back. He said that he’s grateful the show is the reason that he and Gwen found each other.”
Does that mean Aguilera only has herself to blame for her departure from The Voice rather than Shelton or Stefani? Or is the show’s shakeup just another way to attract viewers, with nothing personal indicated by the latest changes? Post your views below.
