Elizabeth Banks Supports Women’s Rights, Obama, In New Video

Elizabeth Banks has tossed her hat into the political ring. The Hunger Games actress recently released a new campaign video, praising President Obama’s record on women issues and touting programs like Planned Parenthood.

Banks says in the video that she used Planned Parenthood to get birth control after college when she didn’t have insurance.

Banks said:

“Yes, I got birth control but it was for my massive migraine headaches and my heavy flow… Yeah, I’m on record as saying I had a heavy flow. And, unfortunately, these are the types of thing I don’t want to discuss with employers. I don’t want to talk about that.”

Romney has said that he would de-fund Planed Parenthood if he was president because the organization’s services related to abortions. But Banks argues that 95% of what Planned Parenthood does has nothing to do with the controversial subject.

Banks says:

“For that little 5% Mitt Romney decides he doesn’t agree with, he’s going to take away cancer screenings. What is he doing? He’s going to take away people’s access to health care… He’s going to take away people’s access to health care close by. We’re talking about working-class ladies who need health care. That’s it. That’s Planned Parenthood… President Obama has not compromised on women’s rights and that’s why President Obama needs to stay in office.”

CNN reports that Elizabeth Banks’ pro-Obama / Planned Parenthood video comes just before the President embarks on a campaign tour of Colorado. Romney leads among men in the state while the president Obama has strong support from women.

The Obama campaign is planning to take advantage of the women’s rights issue. Today, Sandra Fluke, the woman who was called a “slut” by Rush Limbaugh for using birth control, will introduce Obama in Denver.
