Taylor Swift Surprises, Honors Gal Pal Ruby Rose With GLAAD Award

Taylor Swift shocked the crowd gathered Saturday at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, making her way to the event to honor her friend — actress/model Ruby Rose — according to the New York Daily News.

Taylor Swift presented Ruby Rose with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, an honor bestowed each year to an LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance. In announcing the award, Swift paid high praise to her friend.

“I’m here to honor someone who through her words and through her actions proves that she is a force of nature. She tells the world that no one can judge us, and no one can stop us. She is a woman of many talents.”

Ruby took to her Instagram account to thank Taylor Swift for being at the awards show and providing a surprise that brought Rose to tears. Ruby recapped her emotional night and the speech she gave after Rose was introduced by Swift in a poignant Instagram post.

“The true story of how one ‘sometimes girl’ ( me ) was surprised and brought to tears by a surprise ‘always amazing and giving’ girl @taylorswift.. Speeches, hugs and the most beautiful jacket holder in the world. Coming to a screen near you… No I can’t believe the passing of the coat was caught so magically.. ‘Are you sure Taylor?’.. ‘I don’t know.. I am really hot but also I don’t think I can have you hold my coat.'”

In addition to Taylor Swift, musician Demi Lovato was on hand at the GLAAD Awards. The “Cool For The Summer” singer nailed a solo performance of her new song, “Stone Cold,” before being the recipient of the Vanguard Award for her advocacy of the LGBT community, the News Times reported on Sunday.

Nick Jonas presented the award to Demi Lovato. The duo are set to tour together this year, and have been close friends since their Disney acting days began more than a decade ago, the Inquisitr reported.

Taylor Swift also surprised actor and musician Troye Sivan after the awards ceremony. Sivan, who played the titular role on the Spud trilogy, received an award for his work in the music industry. Troye was the lucky recipient of a kiss from both Ruby Rose and Swift, a moment that was shared by Taylor on her Instagram account.

Taylor Swift is no stranger to being on stage for award ceremonies. Last year, the Grammy-winning artist earned numerous accolades for her work on the 1989 album she released in late 2014. To date, the album has produced seven singles, including her latest song, “New Romantics,” that first hit airwaves earlier this year.

Taylor Swift has made the most of her appearances on stage to accept an award, such as using her recent platform at the Grammy Awards to encourage others. The speech was targeted at comments made about her by Kanye West, and Taylor cast shade in an upbeat way over the negativity his comments created.

GLAAD (formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) is an organization that honors media for their outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the issues that affect their lives. The name was formally changed to GLAAD in 2013 to recognize the organization’s continued work with the transgendered community.

Caitlyn Jenner also received an award on the night for her groundbreaking show, I Am Cait. In its second season, the show follows what Caitlyn, formerly Bruce Jenner, experiences now as a woman.
