‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7, Episode 17 Extended Promo: Stefan Loses His Body And Time Is Running Out

The Vampire Diaries season 7, episode 17 is titled “I Went Into The Woods,” and the last episode ended with a shock. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the synopsis reveals that Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) will only have his basic instincts to rely on and everyone is looking for him. The extended promo reveals a bit more information. It seems that Stefan has lost his body and someone else has taken his place.

On the last episode of The Vampire Diaries, Rayna actually caught up to Stefan Salvatore. His brother, Damon Salvatore, had a crazy plan, but was not able to put it in effect. As the Salvatore brothers were talking on the phone, Rayna used her sword and attacked Stefan. As he fell to the ground, Damon tried to have the scar transferred to himself. However, something went wrong and now things are even worse for Stefan. So, what is going to happen with Stefan when TVD airs next week?

“In the aftermath of his brother’s fateful decision, Stefan awakens to find himself thrown into a life or death situation with only his basic instincts to rely on. With time working against him, he sets off on a journey of survival while forced to confront a lifetime of irreversible damage Damon has done to their relationship,” Carter Matt revealed about the next episode of TVD. “Meanwhile, desperate to save his brother, Damon follows an unusual lead he has come across, while Matt (Zach Roerig) sends Valerie (guest star Elizabeth Blackmore) to Dallas to enlist Alaric’s (Matt Davis) help in the search for Stefan. Finally, when Rayna discovers the emergence of a new threat, she sets off on her own mission to find Stefan before the others do.”

Spoilers Guide posted the extended promo clip for “I Went Into The Woods.” It appears that Stefan is alive, but trapped somewhere while another entity occupies his physical body. Driving in a car, Stefan looks at Damon and asks if they know one another. Next, Stefan is seen living a carefree, blood-sucking vampire life. It is clear that another vampire has taken over Stefan’s body, but it is unclear who. However, the extended promo for The Vampire Diaries season 7, episode 17 teases that this particular vampire isn’t interested in leaving Stefan Salvatore’s body at all.

Did the timing of Damon trying to transfer Stefan’s scar cause some random soul-jumping? Or is this tied to the car explosion that caused Rayna to lose her sword? Are there other souls occupying empty bodies like Stefan’s or is this a special case? That information isn’t known, but what is clear is that Stefan is stuck somewhere else, perhaps in another dimension. Everyone is going to be looking for Stefan, but each has their own agenda for doing so. Who will find Stefan first, and will he get his body back? How will this affect Rayna’s mission and what consequences will the TVD characters experience as a result of this?

The synopsis for “I Went Into The Woods” states that Stefan only has his basic instincts to rely on. This either means that he is in a human body or doesn’t have one at all and that we are just seeing Stefan’s soul trapped in the woods. It might also mean that Stefan is pretty much powerless wherever he is at.
