Extreme Homophobia: Father Charged In Gay Son’s Murder, But Is There More To This Bizarre Story?

While homosexuality and the LGBT world has become much more socially accepted in recent years, apparently some mothers and fathers still have a hard time coming to terms with a gay son or daughter.

In Los Angeles, a 69-year-old father was charged with the murder of his 29-year-old son, Amir Issa, after shooting him in the abdomen and face with a shotgun, allegedly due to the fact that his son had come out as gay. The father, Shehada Khalil Issa, of the North Hill neighborhood in Los Angeles, claims he shot his son in self defense, but the District Attorney is not buying the story. The father has been charged with premeditated murder in a hate crime.

The father was charged with premeditated murder in the killing of his homosexual son.

According to the Blaze, the father has been accused of repeatedly threatening to kill Amir because he was gay. Prosecutors released a statement claiming this as the motive for the murder.

“The murder was committed because of the victim’s sexual orientation and because of the defendant’s perception of that status and the victims’ association with a person and a group of that status.”

A chilling twist to this story throws a wrench into the simple explanation that the father killed Amir for being gay. The body of 68-year-old Rabiha Issa, the father’s wife, was found inside the home, as well, according to ABC News. She was found inside a bathroom, having been stabbed several times. The father has not been charged with Rabiha’s murder, and the investigation into her death continues.

Who really killed Rabiha Issa?

Amir’s father claims he found the body of his wife in the house, and shot his son in the head and abdomen with a shotgun in self defense. Detective John Doerbecker shed little light on the situation.

“[The father] claimed [the son] was armed with a knife, and there was no knife to be found. It was a horrible family tragedy.”

The Los Angeles Times reports that when authorities came across the body of Mrs. Issa, it was in such poor condition and bloody, they assumed she had been lying there for a long time. While they could not ascertain the source of her wounds, it was quite obvious something sinister had occurred. The coroner confirmed that she perished from being stabbed repeatedly. The big question is whether the father was behind her murder.

Another twist in this bizarre tale.

Apparently, Amir is guilty of much more than just being gay. Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Greg Bruce said the Issa family were not strangers to authorities. Amir was a troubled young man who allegedly used drugs and vandalized his parents’ home, where he lived. The mother and father were planning on selling their house, and evicting their son.

“Our detectives were involved in the eviction process to try to get him removed from the property.”

A neighbor, Francisco Gonzalez, Jr., said he considered the father to be a super nice person. During previous conversations, the father told him Amir was involved in drugs.

“[The father] was very patient and showed no signs of aggression. That’s why it’s so shocking and sad. We feel for him. It’s a tragedy.”

It is unclear whether or not the father will be charged with the murder of his wife, or if the son truly did carry a knife which he used to kill his mother. For the meantime, the father has only been charged with the murder of his son. The father is being held without bail.
